In which case Tommo, you won't end up like the British Admiral in Voltaire's book who ended up having his head cut off 'pour encourager les autres!' It's a good read by the way, but I've never been one for that 'defend to the death your right to say it' stuff. We'd all be singing the Horst Wessell song and grassing on the people next door for eating bagels or listening to jazz if we all thought like that.

Im getting to the end of the Robert Tressle little number.... GREAT and im getting me gander up... Superb incite into the human nature of people with no will to better themselves or with no REAL chance to... But we all have choices and its a great shame that some dont have the fight, But then it shows that the ones who have must fight harder for wot is right!!!

Now Voltare Is a little heavy for me... But it is a book heard much about and might give it a bash....?

Love Dizzy Gillespie, Ol Chops himself, and the Queen of the Blues... ELLA Fitzgerald.. Well Dinha Washington was known as well but Ella for me IS the Queen... Nat King Cole is the DADDY if it comes to COOL... And Gershwin if you want a tune.... Ella sang George Gershwin and Ira's composistion In an LP ive got.... Its one of my FAVS...

Dont know about you IWW but over the Spurs i love a Salmon and Cream cheese Bagel.. "ME LIFE ALREAD, HOW MUCH? OIII VAAAAY!"

No mate, Candide isn't heavy going. It races along. I like Ella Fitzgerald. To think Chick Webb didn't think much of her at first! Big Joe Turner is worth a listen mate.

Dongash! Pay no attention to the soft sod. If onlt his old girl had had a headache that night his old feller turned up after a skinfull. Still, never mind, There's one born every minute and he's a couple of months worth of them.

No No, you get me wrong.

It is very unfortunate for the people who do on occassion go sick and its genuine. The problem occurred when lamers started abusing it, thats why I said ''full use'' of sick leave i.e. abusing the system.

As for the isolated incidents of managers or DOMs harassing you back to work then, raise a greivance against them or speak with their line manager to sort it out. That just shows they are feeling pressure and want to passit it on to you (person on sick) to get back to work. If you are genuinely off then you should not be getting pressured into returning. Greivance all the way there on that one.

I wouldn't worry too much about the stages procedure if you have genuine reasons for absence. Not just the sore gut or head on a monday, thats where people rightly so get irate at sick leave.

I've seen people come to work totally bunged full of cold, can hardly speak but they still get on with it and others go off for a week at the first sneeze.

The system does seem unfair, but its down to the abusers i'm afraid

When i started with RM all overtime was paid at double time after 12 hours.
There were no households.
If you had a big delivery you had at most two pouches!
Sick pay was paid to everyone, including new entrants!
My pension was SECURE!
I didn't get rung up at home to check on my 'welfare' regarding sickness!
Royal mail's aim is not only to get its way for this 'round' but to complete a knockout against the cwu. Then it really can begin its real agenda and who knows what that is?
Mail centres competing against each other?
Franchise deliveries with the franchise holder responsible for sick and leave coverage?
It could even get really riddiculous:
Postman paid for delivery by pouch weight!
STAND BY YOUR UNION, IF IT LOSES THE RACE TO THE BOTTOM STARTS HERE!
stephen, wake up man. This is 2007.
Businesses have been ripped apart from Joker staff making ''full use'' of sick leave. If it were your business wouldn't you want to make sure sick meant sick. But then again we all scream that the business doesn't care, surely a call to check you are in ( not dogging, and off on holiday for a week) and are well is well within order.
SECURE, please define secure in this modern day? doesn't exist unless you MAKE it secure, striking and forcing business away does nothing to secure anything other than a harder bump at the bottom.
Competition is a good thing, keeps you healthy.

Anyway, keep on the soap box your colleagues need you. Maybe you could also nip by and help with mortgage/car payments, stuff for the kids, extra bite to eat etc
The problem with armani is the suits he wears - probably with Prada shoes.

It would be best to ignore him, he is obviously young and misguided, his bent is to keep his Manager sweet. Hopefully he will never need to be on the sick. It's extremely unlikely he will be with us long he's such a smart arse he's bound to cockup.

A colleague had a hernia operation and came out of hospital 10 days ago. A line manager asked if he could pop in for a chat. He was asked if he would return immediately on light duties he refused citing the sick note he had which lasted a month. The manager told him he was writing it up that he had REFUSED to return to work. Oh yes this is the place to be in 2007.

I think they are quite fetching - I would wear them even if I wasn't going to the rocky horror show!!!

He has obviously assumed the position and is probably biting the pillow.
