Raiders snatch cash in Wylam Post Office robbery

ROBBERS burst into a Northumberland post office today and made off with a stash of cash.

The raiders made their move at around 8.10am at the post office in Laburnum Terrcae, Wylam.

The thugs then made their getaway in a stolen car taken at the scene.

Police later found the abandoned vehicle in nearby Woodcroft Road.

Officers are at the scene and say they will give out more information later.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 8:09am this morning, Friday February 10, police received a report of a robbery at Wylam Post Office, Laburnum Terrace.

“Two men are believed to have entered the premises and stolen an amount of money before fleeing the scene in a grey Ford Mondeo stolen during the robbery.

“Following enquiries police have located the Mondeo in Woodcroft Road nearby.

“Officers are currently at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone who was in the area and who witnessed anything, or who has any information, is asked to contact police on 101, ext 69191.”
