Nuneaton woman's delight as missing wad of cash is found at post office

TWO Royal Mail workers have been praised for looking after a wad of cash mislaid by a Nuneaton woman.

She only realised her costly loss the day after she had visited the Post Office parcel delivery booth in the town centre – and said: “I never thought I would see the money again.”

The woman, who does not want to be identified, told the Telegraph that she had made a “substantial” withdrawal from her bank which she then put into an envelope in her handbag, along with three letters needing to be sent by recorded delivery.

She said: “The following day I checked in my handbag to get the money, which was being used to buy a car. To my utmost horror, it had disappeared.

“After my initial panic, I realised that when I went to the Royal Mail office I must have actually handed over the envelope containing the money together with my other letters that I wanted posting.

“I thought I had lost it forever, I was so upset. I rushed back to the Royal Mail office, even though I did not think there was much hope of having any joy. I mean, it was a plain envelope with a lot of cash inside. So I was completely surprised when I was told it was still there.

“A huge thank you is due from me to the postman who found the money and handed it in. His name is Shaun Gilbert, and I would also like to thank depot manager Simon Kirkland, who kept it safe for me. They have restored my faith in human nature.”
