If the government are going cap in hand to Europe to allow them to take on the pension deficit how can we get a pay increase if Royal Mail don't have any money ?

Who said Royal Mail don't have any money?....apart from Royal Mail and if i had a fiver for every time Royal Mail said they had no money i would be able to fund the pension deficit myself.

judging by the amount spent weekly on casuals in my mail centre alone its quite clear that money is available...as for the pay rise? expect nothing and you will not be disappointed.

Well Yes and No.

Its has not yet been confirmed we are getting 3.5% - But the BT2010 agreement plans for 3.5% with provisions that this can be revisited

Approach to third year basic pay review
Both parties are approaching the future with a positive expectation that deployment of this agreement will ensure that transformation is delivered, leading to an improvement in company performance and a successful and sustainable future for the organisation.
Given this, there will be an increase in pensionable pay, overtime and allowances of 3.5%. This will be revisited if the average RPI for January to March 2012 is outside the expected range of 2%-3%.
Both parties also recognise that there is uncertainty in the commercial environment that may affect the business in either a positive or negative way. Against this background it is recognised that there should be flexibility to reopen this element of the agreement in response to unforeseen events which have a significant impact on the business and its employees.

3.5% with provisions that this can be revisited, what a fantastic deal the union got us!!!dont think i have ever seen anything with as many loopholes in it before in my life.

lets hope the union gets a back bone because as a rep in my office i know that no 3.5% and there will not be many members in the cwu in my office

Going by previous years its usually backdated to 1 April - but even that's not guaranteed.

Following an exchange of correspondence Royal Mail has confirmed that they will be paying the 3.5% pay rise due on the 1st April 2012 and also that it is not their intention to seek to use any re-opener clause to reduce this. The Postal Executive continues to discuss this issue in conjunction with other talks that are taking place with the company. Over the next couple of days further LTB’s will be issued to provide an update on a range of Business Transformation issues. Any enquiries on the above should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department.
