One wonders why Royal Mail persists with this absurd 1pm time limit when working hours are being pushed farther and farther back into the daylight hours. One might suggest that they haven't fully thought this through.

i attempted to deliver a special recently at 11.00am, no answer so p739'ed it, got a telling off because I didn't ring it through to the office before 1.00pm, this has never happened to me before, is this the normal thing to do even if delivery is attempted before 1.00pm??

were you delivering it on a PDA? all specials were supposed to go on vans since 2010 and delivered on PDAs though a lot of offices have not done that and still deliver them on paper and use confirmation by default (AKA cheating) because they dont want to show up as not being able to deliver the specials correctly

Not on PDA, some rounds still using paper, so they're cheating on figures, and that's why they were annoyed with me, because they were in the wrong !!

no not annoyed with you because they were in the wrong, its because at one they confirmed it as being delivered and had to update it when you handed it back to show it as not, they realise that they are now open to being "caught" the confirm by default was stopped years ago but some offices still persist and are getting away with it because they are managing to hide it

There are probably still 1000 offices that haven't had a Delivery Methods Revision.
In some of these offices the Specials are still done by walking postmen/women.
Although later starts have been introduced in walk sequencing revisions that aren't revisions, the problem with Special Deliveries hasn't been addressed and will not be addressed where this incurs extra resources being needed.
Consequently management have reverted to type and are attempting to hide the problem by a) default confirmation or b) failing and hoping no-one notices and complains.
In the 21st century with the technology available the situation can only be described as truly pathetic.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

i do know this practice of confirming specials as delivered prior to updating if postmen bring the item back still goes on

where does it state this procedure has been withdrawn along with specials being done in vans and not by the delivery postmen, a lot of offices still have had no delivery methods revision
