Too true, some footballers are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. There was one footballer recently who, asked about his team's hard-fought win in the previous round of the FA Cup, said 'yeah, it was good to get the three points' :d'oh!

Perhaps I am being a little too harsh but it is only British footballers who come across as being really thick.
If you listen to interviews with their European counterparts they come across as intelligent and articulate.
Perhaps the English football system involves removing children from education at a very early age so they can follow their true vocation of being a flop at any international tournament whereas in Europe they insist on a modicum of instruction of dealing with the media.

TBH most of the people who do finish school seem to have all the intelligence of...............footballers wives, so it seems to me to be a general dumbing down of the whole British society

I believe the education system in england is letting the children down. The school day is not long enough and the school holidays are far too long. I also believe that teachers are of a poorer standard to those who taught my generation. I believe the curriculum was far more reaching than that of today in the basic 3 Rs. There are far too many side issues today particularly in higher education.

Don't get me started on this, stupid teachers teaching to the lowest common denominator, which leads to only teaching to pass exams and then onto more and more idiots going into teaching and then into the spiral of dumbing down. Just look at the levels of spelling on FB and RMC, that says a lot when people can ignore the spell check

It isn't just about reading and writing but general knowledge too has gone by the wayside. Children use computers as a substitute for learning and actually memorising facts. Reading for pleasure has long gone, and with it the ability to spell.

I believe that in Italy for example, they simply interview the intelligent and articulate players. In this country they not only interview the idiots who can barely speak their mother tongue, they give them jobs on TV!

Paul Merson? Ian Wright?
