IPS while sitting

Hi all, Can anyone tell me if management can force you to stand while doing the ips in the morning? DOM has said he will bre removing any stools in use as there is a performance issue with the people who use them. Only about 3 of us sit while sorting and all are experienced sorters so that just doesnt make sense. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, especially if there is anything in writing. Thanks.

All IPS sorters are supposed to be seated.

1200mm [1.2m) is needed for a person to retrieve a tray from a stored York container and carry it behind a seated sorter.

I wouldn't sit on anything that didn't have a back on it..............and I've got really short arms (old war wound ).

A standard draughtsman style upholstered chair with height (minimum adjustment range 660- 760mm) and backrest adjustment and glides or feet rather than castors would be suitable.

So, when doing IPS sorting ( or RS2000 ), we should have chairs with backrests !

What, you don't have chairs with backrests + foot stools...

Well, if prep rates are ever in question, I sugest you refer your DOM to the report that the HSA did , If RM don't provide the right equipment, then you can not be expected to maintain the high standard work rate, can you ?

PS. - just a thought, how about a comode, then we wouldn't need to take a break in IPS to go to the toilet

Thanks for that. I have read the report but it seems that it was put together for mail centres who were standing for up to an average of 8hrs or does the report incorporate local DO's as well as our ips would only cover on average one hours IPS.

Fish, were did you get your quote from? Would there be anything in 2010 Agreement covering this?

Thanks again, much clearer. We got new IPS frames through the world class mail but not a seat in sight! Reckon I can bring them to task on this would you not think?

Actually our CWU rep is also the H&S rep as well and when I queried him he said '' why would you want to sit down when you have only started work''!!!!!!.

The document is a RM doc,it hasn't been agreed by the CWU,but all the same it is good ammo.
