Special Leave
Hi. Does anyone know the rules in respect of Special Leave please? My partner has to have a major op and needs me to help out with the kids for two weeks. I've been told 2 days!

Incredibly poor advice - and the reasons why I think so.hantsman wrote:venom wrote:just have 2 weeks on the sick then and f**k them full pay too

1. 14 days sick would lead to a stage 1 in the attendance procedure.
2. Falsely claiming sick leave could in the worst cases lead to instant dismissal.
3. Its an abuse of the system and one of the reasons RM keep trying to change the attendance procedure and why they want to reduce the time between trigger points.
4. Its blatantly dishonest.

but if you are at an office like mine your lucky to be able to take your holidays and there is no chance of special leave unless your one of the docket kings ,and they wonder why sick is through the roof

Re: Special Leave
From reading that I would say unpaid leave or holiday being taken. Either as paternal leave (depending on children's age) or Family Medical Problem, but the latter is usually just in emergencies. Speak to your manager and see what he can offer.

5. incredibly stupid thing to do if at least one person in your office already knows you asked about special leave, and you then conveniently fall 'sick' at exactly that time

Re: Special Leave
I have just been through this process with a lad in our office i am that dismayed at the guidelines and the effect it has on our members that I have asked the branch to raise this matter further up the chain.
Your DIM can give you 3 days special leave A which is on pay then you have to use up sum of your leave, its disgraceful in situ,s like yours and the one ive just been involved with.
I suppose your DIM has said he will give you one day which is no good to anyone.
There maybe only one option open to you if you cant get sufficient time off and that will be to go sick ( WITH STRESS ) at times like this when your stress levels are sky high and your worrying why should you have the extra worry of losing pay or facing a stage warning it isnt right, but this is how the system is and needs changing as it is causing our members unnecessary suffering.
Good luck but dont be fobbed off by your DIM get your rep to push for 3 days special leave A .
I did have to get my area rep onto the case I was involved with so be prepared for a fight with R/M.
Good luck matey and all the best for your wife I hope all goes well.

Is this special leave document current please. A colleague in our office will be delighted if it is, as he has been denied special leave with no reason given by our DOM, yet this confirms he is entightled just want to be 100% sure before I let him know

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
