I take it you have a night shift?

Scrap the night shift and starting early is dampned down big time.

Nights went under SDD 3 years ago in my office, oiffice starts work at 4.30 am for skeleton shift which is those that cried when SDD bought in later finsh times with the 5 day week and so were allowed to start at 4 am instaed of 5am. This changed to 4.30 am when cut tip was due to go to mail centre but mail centre havent started cut tip yet and they will move back to 4am soon.

i start early to get a head start, bout 10-15 mins. hate giving them the time but i get it back at the end of shift by finishing early. all new starts in our d.o. are 20 hr. contracts. full timers prep the walk for them. the job is rapidly goin' down the pan.

15mins given by every one in your office to RM will no doubt take away a duty or two..

For whatever reason anyone comes in early there is no excuses when RM take hrs out of a D.O. OR MC.

U cannot argue from a CWU point of view about anything as you have been giving and giving, So how can anyone
now tell The Screws they are wrong!! Nails in own coffin spring to mind!!!

NOW TIME PLEASE MYGUINNESS BECAUSE IT COULD BE YOU OUT THE DOOR NEXT????????

OUT!!

FOR GOOD!!!! :d'oh! :d'oh! :d'oh! :d'oh!

yeah l tommo, you are absolutely right. but one thing, i can and do constantly argue from the cwu point of view. im in RM nearly 25 yrs. (for about 23 yrs and 6 mths I started at my proper time and took my full meal relief) served on local UCW (yeah ucw) committee for a number of yrs. I have repped twice, dep rep once. ulr rep once. led my members out on strike against employee agenda and watched strike breakers going in to work. [which resulted in several long term friendships being terminated!]- the office took months maybe yrs to recover from the division a strike brings. - I have preached for yrs. I have made excuses for SDD, (no-one with any length of service worth talking about wanted that in, but as it was a national agreement I had to go along with it and negotiate hrs. away from our d.o. and believe me starting early was not responsible for the hrs. going). i have given probably hundreds of hrs. of my own time on behalf of the union. (pressure from trying to represent up to 90 members on my own and have a family life meant i eventually had to quit repping) What really saddens me now, genuinely, is that nationally, the C.W.U. appear to be on the back foot. competition, mechanisation, etc. is making it harder for the union to call a strike. It is even a fight for them just to get recognition from R.M. Even so, i'm still 110% behind them and always will be.
Ach!! now I've done it, I'm off to sob into my guinness, (myguinness, geddit? heh heh!)

That's what I pointed out in my oringinal post, I get the time back by finishing early. If it comes to the point that if we finish early but they give us more work to do, (it is being talked about by management) then that would be a good incentive not to start 1 second earlier than supposed to. Judging by the poll result the problem is not as big as it is rumoured to be. If we were to apply the early starters in our office to a national status, the result would easily be 95% who do start early. Some actually come in early, prep what they have and then stand about doing **** all.

Forget the poll, not everyone's voted anyway, but looking through various threads on here it is a MASSIVE problem, along with other stuff.
Over 75% of my office are in early(we're on the vans at the mo though)

There's not a lot of early starters, car users, and race and chase guys on the site,or maybe they not saying so.

At the end of the day we're our own worst enemey.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Mate the people that have voted on this site are the people who care about our job!!! Either car users or early birds, They are the ones that mostly wont be on a site like this as they DONT FECKING CARE!!!!! We all know at least 2 or 3 in all of our offices.... It a rats leaving a sinking ship attitude.. The VAN USE IS PRODUCTIVE AS SEEN IN BURSLEM & LONGTON ... IT WORKS!!!! :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause ..I tried to get vans in my old DO but was voted out as so many used cars and came in early.. And the main reason was,,"im, not waiting around for anyone who is late or useless."
With this attitude i was on a loser from the start but i still pushed for it... Because its right!!! In our hearts we all know it,,, Well the people with a heart and have common sense.... This was 7 years ago.. Now RM are screwing us in to the ground i would like to thank the help of the w*****s who said this and all that backed them!!! :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause U KNOW WHO U ARE, IF YOU READ THESE SITES??? BUT I DONT THINK AS I SAID,, CARE ENOUGH TO BE LOOKING!!! OHH WELL!!!! Back to bashing the screws!!! :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy

Sometimes....If I am walking to work then I usually arrive about 5 minutes before start time but occasionally I'll get a lift from someone passing...then I'll be about 15/20 mintues early.

Maybe five minutes early on occaisions - means I get a parking spot nearer the office. Not often though - usually five minutes late - having parked further away

In our office its the part timers who are the main offenders. Some of them are giving the Royal Mail 12+ hrs a week for free. Its insanity,we all voted to stop coming in early and within a month half the part timers crumbled.
