How often do you get a reserve vehicle from the garage to replace a faulty one/service, that doesn't have a log book well in our case nigh on every vehicle we get sent, or have a returned vehicle without the log book, or the driver conveniently doesn't hand the log book in daily, or complete the mileage.......I don't think people realise how important that log book is.fishtank wrote:Our collection drivers sign the log book and perform vehicle checks.
If they didn't when i came to drive it the next morning the mileage wouldn't add up.

Re: Forced to drive? transfer?
i hate people using there own cars
' our office is one of the only offices in the country that saves money, why people use there own cars, are on delivery in minutes from leaving the office while the few who don't use cars spent 25 mins just to get to first delivery point
,they stopped them using there cars, how long did it last ? one day as no lapsing got done which we have to do everyday of the year plus summer lapsing as manager is a tight arse.hence cars being used again. managers are fighting the revision as they know it will be cut off time the the shite will hit the fan can't wait

There's no getting away from the fact that it's down to use private cars on delivery:fishtank wrote:I don't think it's fair to constantly try to twist this in to a PCOD thread.
It's a "don't want to drive for RM thread"...a position most members are entitled to take without abuse from their colleagues.
From the OP
The OP demonstrated their willingness to drive for RM. If they hadn't then they might not have been asked to drive. In any case with P&L coming in throughout more and more parts of the country I wouldn't be surprised if at some point RM insist on all delivery staff being able to drive, as they'll probably switch all walks over from HCT to van as there won't be any restrictions then on things like number of specials taken out or the size of packets.he then said as i had used my car for delivery (2 years ago) i was in royal mails eyes classed as a royal mail driver which i believe is utter bullshit, he said to approach my union rep.

So what happens to people who don't drive, do they get sacked because they can't drive? Bearing in mind most of them will have joined before contracts stated 'OPG with occasional driving duties', I'm interested in your reply!SpacePhoenix wrote:There's no getting away from the fact that it's down to use private cars on delivery:fishtank wrote:I don't think it's fair to constantly try to twist this in to a PCOD thread.

No that isn't a PCOD issue,it's an issue of management making things up as they go along.SpacePhoenix wrote:

Using your car on delivery, however stupid it was/is....does not make you a "royal mail driver" and it certainly doesn't oblige you to drive for Royal Mail.
I might demonstrate a willingness to work overtime on Monday...that doesn't mean it's compulsory from Monday onwards. The OP demonstrated their willingness to drive for RM. If they hadn't then they might not have been asked to drive.
Even in the unlikely scenario that every delivery in the country went to p&l-van share you would still in theory only need 50% of your employees to drive...at the moment i would say at a guess it's closer to 75%.In any case with P&L coming in throughout more and more parts of the country I wouldn't be surprised if at some point RM insist on all delivery staff being able to drive, as they'll probably switch all walks over from HCT to van as there won't be any restrictions then on things like number of specials taken out or the size of packets
I don't think any of our vans have dual controls and new recruits have a driving clause in their contract so there really is no business need at all to force members into driving when they clearly don't want to and to drag up previous use of PCOD as some excuse to justify what is basically bullying by management is pathetic.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
