I shouldent get Income Tax?

I shouldent get Income Tax?

I was working at royal mail centre in wolverhampton. Angard gave me a payroll statement stating a deduction in my income because of the working tax! and they say I owe them money!? I am a student nd have only been working at Royal Mail during the christmas period

I this was the fist job You've had since April last year, you shouldn't pay any tax. If Angard have deducted income tax from your gross pay then it means that they will have put you on the wrong/emergency tax code. You'll have to submit a claim to HMRC to get the money back.

Just for further info though, and because I see a lot of people making this wrong assumption; students are not in any way exempt from income tax. You're on the same basic rate as the rest of us, so how much you pay is dependant on how much you earn.
