MP nominates local post office for award

A BEXHILL post office’s contribution to the local community has been recognised with a nomination to the Parliamentary Best Small Shops Award.

Windmill Drive Post Office, which is run by Jonathan and Sarah Armstrong, was nominated for an award by Bexhill and Battle MP Greg Barker.

Greg said he was happy to show the importance of their contribution to the community.

“Jonathan and Sarah are rightly popular in their corner of Bexhill for the way in which they transformed their local shop and Post Office into the community hub.

“Nothing is ever too much trouble for them; by nominating them for this Parliamentary award I wanted to demonstrate how much they are appreciated by the local community they serve.”

The couple say they have built strong relationships with their customers and are always happy to make the time for a friendly chat or help out where they can. They also deliver groceries to customers who find it difficult to get out.

In addition the Armstrongs are actively involved with sending welfare parcels to troops in Afghanistan.

To date they have sent 1810 parcels and say the response from the troops has been tremendous.

Greg, joined by Rother District Councillor Paul Lendon who, along with Cllr Bridget George, worked hard to ensure the future of the Post Office on Windmill Drive, presented the Parliamentary Best Small Shops Award nomination certificate to the couple.

Although the shop was not a winner in the recent competition, Mr and Mrs Armstrong say they were pleased to have been nominated.
