WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
Angard Staffing Solutions have started to pay its staff £6.08/hour [minimum wage] instead of £6.35/hour from 3/1/2012.
Why should I accept this when I am faster and more competent at sorting than Royal Mail's permanent staff?
Totally unacceptable, unjust and exploitative...equal pay for equal work? Equality Act (2010)!

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
RM exploit the loophole in the casual staff law.
The only way to stop them using casuals would be for the Union to call everyone out.
Permanent staff will not come out so long as the number of casuals is below a certain percentage and the casuals are worked harder than the permanents so the permanent staff can get away with doing less than their fair share of work.
The same thing happens with seniority. There is a caste system in Royal Mail Group:
Management / Union caste - do the least amount of work
Senior caste - do very little work
Junior caste - do more than their fair share of work
Casual caste - used as slaves.

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
You probably are faster than the permanent staff, but they won't care. It's quite hard to get rid of them. Ask one of them about the seniority list up in the office. That's how they Royal Mail decide who get the cushy jobs when they come up. It's not to do with how hard they work!

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
Oh Yes! all watching the match on iPhones. Seriously just don't let it get to you, most of the regulars are grafters and are p**ssed off with the usual suspects who seem to be able to get away with murder! They think they are the bee knees's managing 1 tray of flats an hour bemoaning the casuals at every turn. Its actually quit sad really as in about 6 months most of them will be out on there ear and to be honest totally unemployable.Britvic55 wrote:ALSO which football team you support! Please don't tar all RM employees with the same brush. We don't all work in MC's
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
No, I'm not letting it get to me, but at this "certain" depot, this was a standing joke amongst the grafters. I just thought that I would add this to the "caste" thread. That is spot on too! I have worked as a casual since the 90s, so I've seen it, heard it.....& seen certain Managers "disappear", but all the "good" people seem to leave, because basically they have had enough of all the bull***t!

I did say that MOST of the RM regulars are honest hardworking individuals. Just how the odd one or two still manage to hold down any sort of job is anyone's guess!Stormproof wrote:Please don't tar all RM employees with the same brush. We don't all work in MC's

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
If RM wanted to sort out the lazy and/or incapable staff on cushy numbers, they could.
Management control how cushy a duty is.
Lazy and/or incapable staff who can be of value to management are given cushy numbers.
Some incapables are given cushy numbers in return for becoming puppet union reps. Some bullies are given cushy numbers for unofficially supervising others to be more productive. Some posters on this site have even provided examples of favourites trying to prevent them from claiming overtime when they are entitled to it.

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
Lazy or incapable are opinions based on using your own opinion of your own performance as a template.
Sometimes judging your own performance as acceptable is only your first mistake...followed of course by having the arrogance to judge others using this flawed control.
I know many people who mistakenly but genuinely think they are better/faster/more efficient than the next man/woman.
It's amazing just how much easier it is to delude yourself than it is others.

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
Lazy is a subjective term but incapable is an objective one.
If someone is not capable of doing a task that anyone of their grade should be able to perform, this can be objectively measured. If someone works in a section and avoids doing key tasks because they are not capable of performing these tasks, the duties in that section should be made higher grade duties. You can't have 'specialist' lower grade duties that not all lower grade workers can perform.
If someone is capable of doing their fair share of work but refuses to do it, others could label them as lazy because this is the word that sums it up.
Why would management allow some staff to get away with not doing their fair share of work so others have to do more than their fair share if management didn't get something in return?
Also, don't 'coffee cup ' me, Fishtank. It's rude.

From the proletariat point of view in an unfair world one man does the work of two men.
From the proletariat point of view in a fair world two men do the work of two men.
From the proletariat point of view in an ideal world three men do the work of two men.
Someone else's incapability may be the only thing keeping you in a job.

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
Its plainly obvious we need to bring back the "time and motion man". Fair days work for a fair days pay....a motto many still hold. I will "judge" people based on my on work ethic, which is head down do you hours and what your asked.fishtank wrote:Lazy or incapable are opinions based on using your own opinion of your own performance as a template.

My "opinion" is based on working outside of RM for 24 years and still cannot believe the "One The Buses" mentality of some who "work". Its like being in an episode of "Life on Mars"
Its 2012 if a minority of workers can't see the writing on the wall they are deluded.

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
Fair enough mark but don't complain if your plan results in a trip to the dole.
There is X amount of work.
It stands to reason if you bring everybody's work rate up to your own obviously high standard you will need less than Y employees.
Only the most feeble minded would actually take the gun into their own hands and fire themselves while management stand back and absolutely wet themselves with joy.
The writing is on the wall isn't it?..or perhaps you believe that this incompetent shower would actually spot your potential and rescue you from the employment scrapheap.
Dream on...management are probably the least capable and laziest of all.
It's why they put up with the shirkers in the first place,it makes them look good...or at least average.

Re: WHY SHOULD I ACCEPT A PAY CUT?
What is X ? Day to day it changes. The mindset remains you will do the minimum needed, who cares if the works not done. I actually work for RM as a second job. I like the work and the vast majority of people who I work with who are honest hard workers.fishtank wrote:Fair enough mark but don't complain if your plan results in a trip to the dole.

No I'm not looking for "rescue you from the employment scrapheap" BUT please can't you see that the attitude that SOME RM workers have cannot be justified?
YES the main blame IS management. Plain and simple. But why is it like that? Oh CWU....nuff said.
