Mail Centre rationalisation programme

Heard a whisper - from a senior manager - that Rolls Royce (whose pensions own it) want Bristol MC to move from its Filton Airfield site across the road to a brown fill site - formerly part of RR.
Filton Airfield will close next year, and plans have just been passed to build 2,500 new homes on it. RM still has much of a long lease on the MC.

Anyone confirm?

Just looking at that on Google Maps if RM were forced to move BS MC (which afaik also houses SWDC in the same building) it would need a lot of work to be able to handle a lot of artics, can't work out from the view where the boundry of the old RR site is.

I heard that SO MC has been told their lease isn't being renewed, I think the company that owns that site wants them out, anyone able to confirm?

Anyone know if Tescos still have that big place at Nursling, if they don't have it anymore is it empty or has another company taken it over?

In response to a query a couple of years ago, we were assured by the MC manager at Southampton that the lease on the building doesn't expire until 2040-something (I think it was 2047). If true, imminent renewal is hardly an issue.

Not sure about Nursling - often suggested as a potential site for a new mailcentre. A move will probably happen sometime - the office here in SO is simply not big enough to cope with the mail currently coming in. This has become even more the case since our local cabal of witless WCM zombies took it upon themselves to construct a "training centre" just inside the entrance to the work floor, which has wiped out rather a lot of vital floorspace; for, IMNSFHO, no good or necessary reason. Where once were two full packet bullrings is now a dinky little classroom with a table and some chairs, a few empty sorting frames and soon, we're promised, a thrilling IQ test involving lego. Anybody know the Japanese for "fuckwits"?

The room, BTW, is referred to by staff here as the ColleagueShare room. Geddit??!?

I work in a MC along the south coast and also hear Baa want royal mail out.
I also heard royal mail have got land just off the M27 at Whiteley, between southampton and portsmouth.

RM has had the option on land there for some years, and given that neither SO or PO MCs are fit for purpose (SO have just about the worst performing IMPs in the country and PO have old MTTs etc) you can bet there's going to be a flat-packed multi-iLSM MC there in less than five years.

Just had letter today 6th Feb., from local union rep. at Shrewsbury mail centre that the National Processing Group are meeting today 6th Feb. about future of Shrewsbury Mail centre,not much notice there then.
Outgoing MCM has informed union that he had seen final mail centre estate which will consist of 33 mail centres by 2015.He had also seen plans for Shrewsbury MC which had a people issue marked against it as the risk.

33 seems about right but 2015 was the original plan and last year's Report and Accounts said the plan had been extended until 2016-17. Chester seems likely to take SY, TF into Wolves? But what about LD?

You can take Canterbury MC out it has gone just a few bits left could not call it an MC,more like a ghost town.
