I was told ,or read somewhere recently, that if the union reps at any level (national ,div,area or local) signs an agreement to later starts then this covers RM and they can legally bring them in as part of collective bargaining but if there was no agreement then RM could ask the individual members to change their contract to a later start. If they also disagreed then the only way to legally bring them in later would be to make that individual redundant wether that was 1 person or a 1000 individuals. I am no great legal mind so if anyone out there knows any more details or even if this is at all accurate could they please post a reply. :cfo :lfo :cfo :lfo

My Branch has released the full Document which RM wanted the CWU to agree to on Sunday.
This has certainly shocked even some of the numbnuts who think we're exaggerating what RM
is intending, or that it won't affect them.
I think every Branch will have a copy by now - you should get them to photocopy and circulate
it to the members.

Good on you Cip - this is the information that I want to hear! I shall attempt to change the world later - my concern at prez is fighting 'Later Starts on 8th October' - & the fact that my dom has given notice of night S/A's etc being removed in 28 days.

At about 9pm - 'Postman' put one up entitled 'Important: Late Starts: How You Can Help Yourselves!!! That may be what you are refering to - Have a look! It's under 'News'!

POSTMAN Sir - Mods - I am as, if not more, guilty as most - for making smart a*sed comments - BUT CAN WE HAVE A THREAD ON LATER STARTS THAT STICKS TO THE POINT & THAT ALL CAN BE GUIDED TO! There are some damn good bits of info floating around this site - like 'Cip's - can they all be collated & confirmed if poss?

Yes - I shall echo that thanx - Seniorman. I am at home sick at prez - in our branch the unit reps & members are being treated like 'Mushrooms'! I cannot get in touch with branch officers - as I understand there is a 'briefing' today. The only info - my members are getting - is from me - at home gleaning info from this site. Keep it coming!

It must be a national initiative then. I've been waiting for a reply to an E-mail I sent HQ for almost two months in one case and in another it's six weeks since they said they were going to look into a complaint I made regarding later starts. Perhaps I'm being cynical, but I don't think the CWU are as opposed to later starts as we would like them to be.

I think you are right! If the Executive was opposed to the idea then why haven't they issued any guidance on what we should do?

Is it legal? Can they just bring in a change of contract?

Incidentally IWW I saw the video this morning on the plasma about the early starts and how if they took a vote NOW it would be a 7 o'clock start - that would imply they didn't take a vote originally - or am I being presumptive. The tubby bald bloke looks a bit shifty - it's not you is it?

No, that's the rep. We didn't have a proper vote though. As for going for 7 o'clock, he's changed his tune now he realises he might have to put his full hours in on a Saturday. As for shifty, I could tell you quite a few things from a variety of sources, all of them completely reliable.

Well think my second step will be to track down the post that details all the stings in RM,s latest offer ; print off lots of copies and make sure my fellow workers including strike breakers gets one. Or praps not strike breakers, might be seen as bullying
