It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

To be honest with you I'd get in bed with the devil himself if I thought it would prevent what I fear is going to be a severe mauling for the membership and a step backwards to the 19th century in terms of conditions.IWW Fellow Worker wrote:As much as you might disagree with them, the only people who are likely to get this started will be the Marxists and anarchists on here since it will need publicity and they have the newspapers and web sites. I'm not saying only anarchists and Marxists should be involved as it should be as inclusive as possible. If anyone has any ideas on how to go about it, I think we should be prepared to read them and offer constructive, comradely criticism.dvbuk55 wrote:I keep seeing a rank and file movement mentioned but how would we get it started? It would appear we can't actually influence the existing PECs or full time officers to do what we want - even though we pay their bloody wages.

Because some of us don't consider ourselves left-wing.linkinpark wrote:Is there not a left wing movement in the CWU? If not why not?BELIAL wrote:I'm game, any suggestions for starting a rank and file movement.
Step 1... Ohh good we've done that already!

But there should be something and first we would need some aims and priniciples such as:
We demand the right to information. No more talks behind 'closed doors' with management. If it involves us, then involve us.
Annual elections for all senior posts within the CWU with instant recall and re-election for those we feel are not up to the job.
No affilliation with any political party.
Direct contact with the EC if we feel our Local or Area Rep is in the pocket of management/acts in an arrogant way/acts in a selfish way.
Expulsion from the CWU of all strike breakers.

I think there are far too many on the CWU Gravy Train. Maybe we should look to be cutting costs at HQ - maybe we should look at selling the London HQ and moving it to a more central position - and away from the lure of politics. Perhaps if we halved the Executives pay and perks it may help to focus their mind on who it is provides so lavishly for them.
The Senior Officers were at the TUC instead of dealing with the business at hand and THAT is a dereliction of their primary function.
If we transgress we are brought to book - but who is bringing this set of wasters to book? They'll be calling us out to lose money - and I accept that - but for every day we lose then so should they - that too may help to focus their mind on the business in hand.

I also subscribe to the idea that they should be on the average wage of those they represent. Never mind this hierarchy which undermines the solidarity which should be paramount in any union. Do the job for the right reasons, or leave it alone. There should be a direct line between the member, and the General Secretary. De-rail the gravy train.dvbuk55 wrote:I think there are far too many on the CWU Gravy Train. In the medium term, we've got to get our people onto the EC. By 'our people' I mean people who will look after ourselves, voice our concerns and speak up for the Rank and File. I don't care what strand of socialist they are as long as they're doing a job for us. I don't want some party political hack on a recruitment drive for his/her party. I want to let the union bosses know that there are thousands of us being systematically robbed by the Government and Royal Mail and that a bunch of London based Labourites are failing us.

This is the problem. No info coming from Wimbledon at all. In the age of the internet, this is unacceptable.jmlr1971 wrote:im afraid ther are numbnuts all over the place thatll just do as theyre told, we really need a frank letter from cwu pointing out exactly whats been going on and whats going to be happnin to terms and conditions and pensions etc to shock them into action!![]()
