I know, but were you referring to me being selfish or the person who has abandoned? I'm not a postie BTW so my perspective is probably different. We don't get overtime but we do have to cover absence regardless otherwise people don't get paid!

he clearly has the confidence to phone up and lie about being ill when he is not,surely demanding what is yours would be preferable to pretending to be sick.
where is the rep/what has he/she done so far.is he even a member as he seems to be a 6 month contract..rolling..he might not even be here next year to take the extra 10 days.

You sir are a habitual sexist and a fool. You need to re-read my posts. I have never condoned any misuse of sick leave and never will. I'll await your apology.

When I joined Royal Mail many years ago I understood my pay conditions and one of the reasons I joined was because of the good sick pay and maternity entitlements. This is not because I wanted to abuse them (I have a very good sick record) but because I value them as part of my pay package. The idea that you would like to take them away from us is effectively a pay-cut in my eyes. At the moment we are seeing all sorts of changes to our terms and conditions so I don't see why anyone would want to give us an even poorer deal by taking away what we have left.

The sad thing is, we probably will see these benefits reduced in future and you'll no doubt be very pleased with that. I just hope, like many of our older colleagues towards the end of their career, you don't fall seriously ill and suffer as a consequence.

Good luck for the future.....you'll need it.

could not have said it better myself.you donot see it as a valuble life line that if you ever became seriously ill you could rest easy in the knowledge that you could still put food on the table and a roof over your head.(at the companies=taxpayers=my expense) you see it as part of your wages,there to be used when ever you wish.

and again for clarity,most of my unit do not have sickness records,good or bad.are we super human?no just honest,and if one of us is feeling well under the weather as i was today(streaming cold,aching back)then we help each other out .i could of coarse had just phoned in this morning ,said i was ill and i am taking a week off .in the secure knowledge that they would have lapsed a round and totally fooked everyone off the rest of the workforce.But clearly there is something in our genetic make up down here that seems to make most of us abit more considerate.

maybe its just a completly differant working ethos to some of you guys.
where having the squite doesnot mean your incapable of work.you donot loose bowl control ,you just need to go more often.
having a headache sorry migrane doesnot render the average person incapasitated for a week.
a cold whilst very unpleasent is not going to stop you walking down the street from house to house,or sitting on your arse at the callers hatch,or sitting on your arse in payrole ...............well you should get the drift...but i doubt it.
