We were told today the same, 8th of OCT, we will be starting at 6, P/T will come in later, and the firms will still come in at 5, can't understand why the firms should come in early, as the mail will be in later, so what are they going to deliver?

Also as the trucks are going slower and thus saving fuel, they must be saving money, so why can't they put the savings into the wage rise?

i do a firm delivery told today we may still start at 4 o clock and then everyone else at 6 15, so what happens when they are still sorting gone 9 o clock are duty finishes at 11 40 bloody clueless....

Another thing I want to know is, how are we supposed to deliver 9am specials, and come to that, what about the 1 PM special, if we're out delivering until 2 PM.

Plus I hate hving to work Saturdays as it is let alone until the middle of the afternoon.

Oh yes. He didn't even tell us we had a choice between 06.00 and 06.30. It was a case of a secret meeting with him and the DUM (who got promoted for bringing in the later starts) and into the canteen to be told a few of 'the lads' had asked him if we could start later. He said we had no choice but to accept them as they were coming in any way. A quick show of hands, and those with no life outside Royal Mail, aided and abetted by the office drunks voted to accept. The following Monday, they were in. Since then, there has been a slow realisation from the season ticket holders of football clubs or those who will struggle to finish in time for a 12.15 kick-off (even for a televised match), that later starts knacker your weekend social life. I'd like to see a breakdown of figures for Saturday sick-leave before and after later starts. Now, with these other enforced changes, the rep, who has a firms delivery which doesn't get delivered on Saturdays might have to take a walk out. He's trying to negotiate earlier finishing times on Saturdays because he's not happy at the idea of working until 2 pm.

I to don't understand the 28 day 90 day issue. Is it a legality? We need some guidance from headquarters before these muppets bring in the change. I know some members contracts supposedly state a start time.

There's not much chance of that happening mate. This is why we need this board and the suggestion of a Rank and File movement operating within the CWU. We're all going to have to look after ourselves to get anything done.

I keep seeing a rank and file movement mentioned but how would we get it started? It would appear we can't actually influence the existing PECs or full time officers to do what we want - even though we pay their bloody wages.

As much as you might disagree with them, the only people who are likely to get this started will be the Marxists and anarchists on here since it will need publicity and they have the newspapers and web sites. I'm not saying only anarchists and Marxists should be involved as it should be as inclusive as possible. If anyone has any ideas on how to go about it, I think we should be prepared to read them and offer constructive, comradely criticism.
