But you get it back - if you purchase leave you still get paid when you are off on the extra ones.bringon4dayweeks wrote:£9.90 times 52 equals £514 pound no thanksfishtank wrote:Are you on the PSP system Storm?Stormproof wrote:It shows up on my payslip POAL £9.90, thats for 2 weeks.

It's quite a difficult thing to get your head around.
In one sense he's right you are losing £514 because it's effectively unpaid leave you are taking.
In another you're right, rather than losing it all in one go and having no pay that week 2% is taken off each week to compensate.
So you don't get it back as much as have the pain spread more thinly.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Buying extra holiday
and do this mean we pay less tax and increase in pay rise would compensate it and it is probably be worth 5 pounds less for 2 weeks less work. Can't be that bad.

Re: Buying extra holiday
Tell you what I think this system is apauling
R.M is making an absolute killing on this one..... Can't remember but I think this was implemented from the way forward agreement, giving employees the opportunity to make their leave up to six weeks.
In our office people who have purchased this additional leave, pick it on the annual leave list AFTER everyone else has had their standard entitlement.....All well and good if you don't mind days off in the middle of Jan or the likes. They do it in this manner so they can cover the additional leave with the leave reserves, so the full amount you pay to R.M goes into their coffers.
When it was introduced it was sold to us I believe giving the impression it would be seperate to the annual leave list (R.M would pay colleagues overtime to cover your extra holls or even take on casuals) hence you could take the leave whenever you wished, of course this was not the case
. Another opportunity taken by R.M to shaft its workers..... After all lets face it we don't go to the supermarket and ask to buy anything what is left and going off, then pay full price for it !!!!!!

Re: Buying extra holiday
There are a few ways to spin it cheetah..
1.It artificially reduces take home pay increasing the dependence on overtime.
2.It improves work/life balance.
3.It allows RM to reduce staffing levels during quiet periods.
4.It protects jobs by reducing the number of annual hours worked per OPG.
Like most things it depends what your agenda is whether you spin it as a positive or a negative.

Re: Buying extra holiday
I'm not against it FT, in fact when it was introduced I thought it was great and filled out the form. When I was told the arrangement in our office, I soon withdrew my request as when we come to pick our odd days there is next to nothing left then(certainly very little in the summer and definitely no school holiday dates) so when the additional leave was picked you only get garbage, it's extra time off with my family is what I was after not rainy days in January on my own.....fishtank wrote:There are a few ways to spin it cheetah..

Is this how purchased leave is allocated in other offices??
