All Angard staff laid off in Bristol

Post by copitorojo »

Sorry if this is old news (I've been through this forum and can't find anything on it) but we've been told that Angard no longer has a contract to supply staff to Royal Mail. So if you are an Angard worker and you've been promised work this week and next you'll be turned away.

Manpower and WB agency staff are not affected.

About 24 of us turned up for a promised 22.30 - 06.30 shift tonight at Filton (we'd signed up whilst working at the Portbury outhouse last week) to be met by the shift manager. He said it was known on 23rd December that the Angard contract was being cancelled as soon as the last Angard agency worker finished their shift on Christmas Eve (so thanks to the Portbury management for keeping us in the loop, is that why you wanted our ID badges back?).

Any other Angard worker who's been promised work this week, check with with your Royal Mail office. Don't check with Angard, they told one casual to turn up tonight and that they would have a contract direct with RM.

Turn up people, think this is scaremongering again! For the umpteenth time on this forum RM are Angard, Angard are RM. Go in sign a sheet and work, your pay will get sorted eventually. If the works there they will need workers. I guess its up to the individuals concerned to gauge if over the Christmas period they made enough impact to be noticed to be able to walk in and get on with it.

Tempting idea, although from what I heard last night I'm not sure the work is there.

Has anyone heard that Angard no longer have a contract with RM? The contract was cancelled last Thursday as I understand it.

Called them up as i working as well today, its still with angard, they cant cancel contract because they own the whole damn thing, unless they shut angard down but that wont happen cuz theyve invested a lot all ready.

As Angard are a directly owned subsidiary of Royal Mail, and in some cases they share Board members, its unlikely that they have cancelled the whole contract. More likely is that locally they do not need casuals so have ended those local Angards casual contracts.
