erm seriously??

they dont havce one rule for one office and another for a different one, the rule is written down,

DONT LEAVE THE KEYS IN THE VEHICLE EVER

from what your saying your guys are regularly jumping in and out and leaving the engine running, if one of your vans are nicked then you are likely to lose your jobs and tbf you would probably deserve it if you are doing it regularly and the reason is simply so you can get finished earlier

The only time I ever left the keys in the van was when I was doing the vehicle check, but that was in the yard.

If it had happened to me whilst out and about (not that I ever left the keys in the van due to my intense paranoia of giving RM any reason to discipline me) I'd have just said that I thought one of the bulbs had gone so I had got out to check and the door shut behind me, locking the keys in the van
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

Obviously his manager knows the correct procedure and the horrible creature has decided to implement them, your manager does not!!!!...... :no no :no no :no no ..... How low will these bullies stoop, when does common sense get any consideration. The circumstances you describe are in my opinion excusable and require nothing but a off the record chat. It is dispicable how RM management are treating it's employees, how on earth do they expect us to pull together and take the business forward when they treat people in this manner. AND WHY IS THE UNION IDLY SITTING DOING NOTHING :mad :mad :mad

I doubt very much your so called offence is classed as gross missconduct so it's not a sackable offence if I am right, but follow the golden rules, get the best union representation you can i.e local or area rep whichever is the better, document everything (it's likely they will make procedural mistakes), never attend anything to do with the charge without a witness. I would also get back dated weather report of the day in question and make this my defence as the circumstances are obviously out of your control when the wind rips the door out of your hand.

Good luck and try not to worry too much.......

Do they not think of the stress and worry it causes not only to you but your family?
Yes they do think of the stress. That's why they do it like this.
Maximise the stress and hope for another mistake.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
