Dear colleague
As you will know, the implementation of Network 2007 will alter the arrival time of mail into our delivery offices. This is driven by changes in the law that mean 7.5 tonne vehicles can no longer travel over 56 miles per hour. This will slow down many of our vehicles, delaying the network, and in particular, the arrival of mail into our mail centres and delivery offices.
The impact of these changes will vary across the country and your manager will have explained any impact on your start times.
You will have been discussing this in your office over the past few months and we will listen to and work with anyone who has genuine difficulties with the new start times to find a solution, wherever possible.
We have been discussing all of this with the CWU and have already delayed the introduction of the changes to give us time to complete those discussions. We have once again delayed introducing the changes until 8 October 2007. I know that you have been advised previously of a number of different dates for the introduction of these changes and that this may have caused you some personal difficulties. I can only apologise for this and ask you to understand that we have been doing all we could to get agreement to allow us to introduce the change as smoothly as possible.
We need to get these changes in and bedded down well before Christmas, so we are ready for the legislation that comes into force in January 2008. This is therefore the last possible date for implementation. I am writing to you now to give you as much time as possible to consider how it might impact on you on a personal basis so you can make any necessary changes to your personal or domestic arrangements.
People's feedback, either directly or through your managers, suggests that it is not necessarily the change to start times that is people's biggest concern. Rather, it is the potential loss of their early shift allowance. As a result. we have proposed to the CWU that people retain this allowance, on a personal rights basis, once the changes have been successfully deployed in their office and for as long as they remain in their current role. We have still not been able to get agreement for this but the offer remains on the table.
If you would like to discuss any issue relating to these changes, please speak to your manager.

Yeah we got told most of the deilvery staff will start at 6am or 6.15am but the bulk jobs will still start at 5am.

We were also told that only people that don't live on a direct bus route to work will be picked up by RM drivers. So you'll still be getting up at the back of 4 or whatever to catch the bus and its out of your own pocket. Brilliant.

Just been told by our dumb about later start times as from 8 oct just shows you how doppy they are could`nt answer a single question about it or they are just being plain stupid about time we showed royail mail they cant push there staff about
