Last time, the weasel put the notice of the meeting on the notice board a few hours before the meeting that was held during my duty time.
I object to anyone who will not be represented by an Area Rep, such as members of a Branch Committee, having a vote on a veto of nominations for the role.
I object to having to 'jump through hoops' to get nominated. A nomination only allows you to be a candidate in an election, you still have to persuade the electorate to vote for you.
A nomination from two members should be sufficient to qualify as a candidate. I will be writing to my Branch Secretary. If the Branch objects to my nomination, they should state their reasons in writing so that I can appeal against their decision before the deadline for nominations expires.
Why does it seem my Branch Secretary is trying to help my Area Rep get elected unopposed?
Well Minister I think you have come up against the old guard. How many times have you seen on here "become involved" and change from within. Not that easy to get involved if the old guard don't want change Minister, and that's at the level you are hoping to be elected..........now how would you think someone who would like to become a leader of the union would go on?
And they say the closed shop is dead
If the Branch secretary objects then ask for reasons in writing at the same time contact CWUHQ General Secretary Billy Hayes and tell hIm that the Branch is stepping outside of CWU rules with regard to elections. All you have to do is put in a a nomination form with a proposed and seconded that it! Keep any literature for the NDC which should be activated if Branch Secretary stepped out of line.

may be off topic but couldnt the higher ups in the union identify offices with low membership? then try to increase membership there. colleagues who arent members need to be brought into the fold asap. only then can we stop managers bullying. an attack on one would be an attack on all

Branches know which units have problems with membership numbers.
Area reps should be visiting these units as a priority. Some Area Reps do and some Area reps prefer the easier task of visiting strong offices for a back-slapping session.
The difference in the quality of Area Reps,Branch Officials and Branches in general in this union is astounding.
There needs to be more accountability either through the ballot box or HQ...preferably both.

Ah yes, an Area Rep..................I have heard of them and I may actually have seen one in the last 22 years................a couple of times, probably when a forthcoming election is to take place and it's a close call, but usually it's just a letter explaining what a difficult role it is and how hard they work on our behalf , yes I know. I somehow think that the conditions and terms of the membership at unit level are far outweighed by the huge responsiblity of maintaining his/her status quo.
I would wager a goodly sum that at least 75% of my unit of over 160 staff would not recognise the Area or Div Rep and the same number would not be able to name them, that's how far apart the two are in this day and age.
