UNLIKE other postmen, Mickey Williams was hoping for a frosty reception this Christmas Eve.

For the Guisborough mailman dressed like a snowman to deliver the last post before Christmas.

The grandad-of-nine wanted to spread a bit of festive cheer to the 600 houses on his Brotton round.

“I love Christmas,” said the 56-year-old. “I’m a little bit like Santa - delivering cards and gifts at Christmas, so I thought I would try to brighten up the day for people who I visit.”

But Mickey’s outfit needs to include an elf.

’Elf and safety, that is.

Mickey - married to Helen, 58, for 19 years - explained: “My boss told me it’s fine to dress up - but I have to wear my regulation Royal Mail shoes - for health and safety reasons.

“But the festivities have been going on all week.”

Mickey, stepdad to four grown-up children, has been wearing a selection of Christmas hats. He said: “So far I have had on a flashing hat, a black and white one, there’s a bowler hat with Santa going down a chimney and a few others.

“If you can’t have fun at Christmas when can you? It’s been a hard year for people - I just hope I can brighten up their day.”

Mickey’s postal route takes him three-and-a-half hours to complete.

Wife Helen said: “He’s so dedicated to his job and he just loves being a postman.

“Last year he had only been doing this route for a year but now that he knows everybody he thought it would be a good idea to make people laugh.”

And daughter Tanya Watson, 36, believes her dad is worthy of note.

She said: “My dad works out of the Skelton post office. He is a wonderful dad and a fabulous postie - loved by everyone.

“This goes to show the lengths some postmen will go to, to deliver the mail in time for Christmas.”

Mickey has been a Royal Mail postman for more than 15 years.

Our DOM put a big stop on what has been a long tradition in our office of wearing Xmas outfits for what he called Health and Safety reasons, truth is he hates to see anyone having a bit of a giggle whilst being paid by RM...... Baa humbug, he's a bit like scrooge anyway so it all fits together....... :nana :nana
