Re: Leaving the union
what would our payrate be if we didnt have the union,,,,,for all the faults and downsides,,i would think a lot of us would not stick the job if we were paid what royal mail thinks we are worth. it wouldnt be much above minimum wage if it was down to rm. i know its not great, but there are newish staff at our office think we are paid hansomely for ''unskilled'' work. one of them is an ex-manager from a garage who says he is now paid more than he was as a manager. a couple of others reckon we dont know how well we are paid(
pist off at that
) as they,ve come from shite jobs which were poorly paid. one is ex mcdonalds staff, the other is from agency. having said that,, look at the conditions of new starers coming into the job now. glad im old school.

Thats easy - ask any Angard Casuals, or check the pay scales posted in their forum. Thats how much Royal Mail think they should be paying us.daveyeff wrote:what would our payrate be if we didnt have the union,,,,,

Re: Leaving the union
thats got to be a big hooray for the union on that one then,,, anyone thinking thats not the case would presumably want to do the same job for the same money as angard staff!!TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Thats easy - ask any Angard Casuals, or check the pay scales posted in their forum. No its not - Black leg labour is as I described above (against the Union, or that cross pickets lines) Non Union Labour in my office have fully supported all strikes since I started at RM, therefore they are not Black Legs but they are Non Union.
You are confusing 'blackleg' with 'scab'. You can be in the union and scab. A blackleg is not in any union. It's a bit like people who cross a picket line but who don't think theyre strike breakers because their union isn't the one on strike. Theyre still strike breakers not theyre not neccessarily blacklegs.

Re: Leaving the union
Only been with the RM for a few months ,but there seems to be a lot of disillusionment with the CWU.
Having spent my working life as a Unison and Unite member, I have been a bit unimpressed with the CWU.
First impressions seem to suggest that they don't really seem to have their members interests at heart.
They definitely could do with an offensive to win back hearts and minds. But not being in a Union would be unthinkable for me. :dcfo :ncfo :vcfo

Re: Leaving the union
The Union was completely corrupt in my unit and was dominated by a clique of self serving favourites. I even had to bypass the Union to get us back money that had been taken from us.
However, there were people in the wider Union that helped us and they wouldn't have been available if we weren't in the Union. One guy stuck his neck out and almost got it chopped off.
A few of us put some effort in and the wider Union backed us. Things have changed now and, personally, I feel that nobody will dare treat me like a third class citizen in my unit. I am expecting that, after a couple more years, the thought of treating anyone in my unit as a third class citizen will be completely alien.

Its the wider union we are having trouble with, lied to and then pushed right over the cliff, its rotten from the top down.Ive been to a few agm's and its just like listening to mp's promise the world and deliver f**k ALL.The unions just dont have any clout anymore but people still pay to be in it god knows why,oh and one last thing even the special offers for being a union member are a joke rip you off left right and center, i can a better deal on my own.

Union Jack:please let me know how much you will get in this year's pay rise. Please ensure you contact your line manager and commence your own pay discussions.
Or will you just except the pay rise believing RM out of the kindness of their hearts gave it to you.
pathetic!

Basic wage..take home pay...it's all the same to the bank manager.pcb wrote:So you are telling me he had his basic wage cut?
The point is pcb,the deal non-members make with themselves is the same as we make with ourselves...you take the rough with the smooth.
The only difference with a non-member is that they don't get a say.
I don't imagine many of them will thank us for park&loop.

what has the union actually done in the last ten years apart from make us into slaves for royal mail, protecting full time jobs what a crock of s**t,if they wanted to get rid of us they would and theres nothing the union could do ,i'd rather be made redundant than treated like a dog,oh and the pay rise is 3% is it not in april the last one of a 3 year pay deal,i bet that the union will renegotiate that and we will never see it,come back and we'll talk again april and you will see im right.
