I heard that a manager from bristol was hit yesterday,from a manager where i work,also strangely,a vending machine was smashed up in anger?! (Go figure!).

On a side note,i find it strange that this thread has desended into a war of words between various posters???

If you're going to promise people a job and potential earnings especially just before Christmas then not pay them and piss them about with lame excuses,then tell the papers more bullshit that it's only a minor problem...this kind of thing will happen.

I got my £350 voucher today, so my earlier personal anger at not being paid has morphed into a more general anger that by buying off some staff with this emergency voucher payment - which will also help Angard minimize the risk of walk-outs in the last 3 days before Xmas - RM and Angard are somehow trying make the casuals feel lucky and grateful enough to receive the 350, and therefore less likely to show solidarity with the many other casuals who haven't yet seen a penny.

Many of us will be owed more than 350 anyway.

My advice is: Cash your vouchers in quick, before Angard goes into total meltdown post-Xmas, and casuals will be denied access to their former RM places of employment and no longer be able to count on the help of friendly and helpful managers who tried their best to help them (Yes, they do exist!)

Oh - and unless in self-defence, please don't go around punching anyone, not even managers (unless they are visiting from Angard HQ (haha), in which case a robustly argued verbal intervention will probably frighten the bejeezus out of them).

All the managers at my workplace have been very helpful with the pay situation and have done everything they could to get this sorted out.

I hope the persons responsible for the Bristol incident actually don't get payed now, would serve them right as it's not the managers fault at all, like south park did for canada we should burst into song! 'BLAME ANGARD!'

Word came through to the Portbury Outhouse (Bristol's secondary mail centre) about the assault at Filton (Bristol's primary mail centre) on Tuesday night.

The first story doing the rounds was that an Angard casual had confronted one of the RM managers about the lack of pay and had been given an unsympathetic reply to the tune of, "It's not my problem, get back to work," that resulted in him being punched to the ground. An alternative story filtered through later, which was that the Angard employee in question had arrived over an hour late two days in a row and had been told not to turn up if he was late again, only to turn up late for a third consecutive shift and be turned away, and at that point the punch was thrown. It might be that Angard casuals affected by the pay fiasco were overly sympathetic to some mild martyrdom and fabricated some elements of the first tale or that RM staff were eager to dampen the growing disquiet and put about the second. The gossip mill keeps on turning...

Manager put in charge of casuals at Christmas Bristol Mail Centre sacks a woman for being 5 mins late.
Days later same manager sacks a male casual for being missing for a few hours during shift. Man turns out to be brother of woman sacked earlier.

All the casuals have not been paid for three weeks. Production control manager promises all will be paid on Friday 16th Dec which doesnt happen.
Mail Centre Manager unhappy with PC manager gets a whole team of people to make up giro cheques for the casuals that they can cash on Saturday. For some reason the sacked man gets no giro so turns up at about 2pm 19th Dec in mail centre reception with two of his friends for back up.

All three men are about eighteen years old. Manager says why are you here you have been sacked which is all to much for the man and a fight starts. Panic button is pressed and managers rush to reception. The fight moves outside by which time the sacking manager has been punched in the face and now has a fient black eye. He was also knocked to the ground and stamped on by the three men.

Whilst most managers watched safely from behind the reception doors not venturing outside only the Late shift manager and a newly apointed coach! took on the three men.

Police called,no arrests.


There has been various problems with the sacking manager previously,i'll leave that there.

So basically the manager was being a hard arse and got punched for it, something many a Postman up and down the Country must have been tempted to do, the only difference we had a job to lose, the casuals don't have a job to look forward to after Christmas and not getting paid to boot so they may as well go out with a bang.

I think it's very good of the manager not to press charges. He must have realised how he had antagonised the aggrieved casuals. I hope he recieved an apology for the assault.

It is quite telling that nobody immediately rushed out to help the manger, it seems to me that he isn't too popular with them either, it certainly gave the staff at work something to smile about

I would have pressed charges without a shadow of a doubt. It would seem to the yobs involved that violence goes unpunished. The fact he had not been paid was not the problem of that manager but the agency he was employed by. Naturally he would have assumed he didn't deserve the sack in the first place and would also assume he needed two mates to make his point.

Yep the local managers are victims in this too. People will just vent their frustration on the nearest figure of authority, as it's not possible to speak to any management from Angard. It's not fair on them, just like it's not fair on the temps manning the phones for Angard.

No one from Angard management has had the guts to come out and take any responsibility for this, which is shameful.
