£350 a bribe?

Post by Luther101 »

They called me into the office smiling at me, handed a paper for £350..I worked 96hrs...that comes to 540. So are they suggesting 190 is taken for tax?? I feel like they just trying to avoid any chance of casuals going on strike therefore having huge problems. Just at the start of this week there were many casuals talking about quiting and some didnt even turn up. Now they paid some people off, all of sudden the casuals are putting their heads down and getting back to work.

The next pay is due on the 23rd, by then most of the work is done and RM have washed their hands with us...what if we are not paid then?

The £350 is part of your wages, so in a just world you'd get the rest in due time. I guess you could see it as a bribe, as it's a last resort to stop people from walking. I do share your worry though, once Royal Mail are done with us it'll be 10x harder to get our wages.

No the bank holidays are Monday and Tuesday week - Deliveries are working this Friday and Saturday so its not a Bank Holiday.

It's not a bribe; it's just Royal Mail trying to help people out. It is in their interest too. When I get my £350 tomorrow, I am less likely to walk, aren't I. All things will balance out eventually.

Depending on what mail centre you're from, some are paid £350 because Royal Mail genuinely care, others are paid to stop them walking out, so whether you class it as a bribe is a subjective thing.

Lol so you think they care? If they did care, they would have introduced this £350 scheme weeks ago, since there were folks who didnt get paid for 3weeks. They didnt care that people havent being paid for weeks, they just noticed now that the casuals might not turn up..so they have no option really but to pay people off.

What are the legalities of it? A wage is meant to be taxed isn't it, but you can't tax a £350 card can you. It seems very dodgey to me

Angard are Royal Mail. Your post is exactly the reason why Angard were set up, so that RM can get away with murder yet claim that it isn't them that are doing it but this other entity Angard, so that they can lower the wage of casuals on last years rate and say it's the agency paying now not us etc.

It certainly isn't wages so it does seem to be a sweetner. "Please don't leave us up s**t creek, we'll give you some of the peanuts we owe you"
