after a number of emails, and endless telephone calls to Angard, I finally had enough on Friday and downed tools.

Friday night I got a very very apologetic Mail Centre Manager on the phone who assured me thta I will be paid by the end of the weekend.

OK, is this true or just another lie?

Well, I had another call today from the same manager asking what time I would be able to get to the Mail Centre to collect my pay.

Well, this is a turn up for the books - I got paid, in cash, and have been paid in advance for the in coming week.

I don't think I was the only casual to walk out, the mountain of mail waiting to be sorted said enough to me... loads of overtime for next week!!!

Its only against the law if there is no intention to pay tax and NI and that is patently not the case here.

An emergency cash payment to appease? Where's the payslip? In the post? Angard Staffing Solutions have had nearly a WHOLE YEAR to sort out a payroll system actually inherited from RM and a subset of the RM system! Inexcusable, unacceptable and total incompetence. Why the need for this agency?

Many are the mailcentre managers in a panic at the prospect of zero casuals so I can understand any measures being taken. We got Quality Street and "this voucher entitles a meal of up to £5 in canteen" vouchers. Here's a theory - they only created Angard so that RM don't look so bad..... [as in, 12 months ago this forum would've been full of what dickheads RM are]. Bet the main sorting office in Pyonyang doesn't have this trouble, with or without the Dear Leader [whose postcode escapes me].

If by Royal Mail you mean (very) senior management who want to pay casuals less than regulars but blame it on a subsidary called Angard I'd guess you are are right but if you mean to not make the RM payroll system seem bad, the old RM payroll system for casuals was far more effective. There wasn't much of a conversation about wages and conditions on my shift last Xmas, now it's the number one topic.

I'm working at Thorpe Road, Norwich. We were promised to be paid by RM themselves on Friday 16th but it never happened. I didn't go to work that night and never heard from anybody. I even called in my absence and gave the reasons why on the answer machine.

I haven't been offered cash, and I still haven't been paid into my bank.

I still have not been paid when pay day was supposed to be Friday 23/12/2011!!!?? Is it that difficult to do an electronic transfer???

The Directors of ANGARD STAFFING SOLUTIONS:
Just a bunch of incompetent, self-serving, bonus obsessed, devious, greedy and obfuscating liars who have not done enough to set up a proper payroll for all its Christmas casual staff. Absolutely inexcusable and unacceptable incompetence...particularly when ANGARD STAFFING "solutions" actually INHERITED a payroll infrastructure from Royal Mail for practically a whole year i.e. since January 2011! One wonders whether these highly paid directors could actually sort and do the job of a Christmas casual on £6.35/hour or £6.05/hour if you have been working long term for Angard since last Christmas!

Yes, feel very guilty about your inexcusable treatment of Angard staff as you enjoy your lavish, ill-gotten and totally unacceptable BONUSES and big FAT SALARIES.
