monday 19th dec whos striking?

how many people are willing to take strike action this monday then?anyone know if there any official planned strikes?or is it all just scare mongering?

It can't be official as there is no organising union.

If can't be official as there has not been a ballot.

Its not scare mongering - Turo Casuals walked out on Monday - its in the news.

Monday - it may or may not happen but thats up to each individuals conscience and is hardly scare mongering. I think there will be scattered walk outs if nothing is done, and RM will do their best to avoid it, hopefully by sorting out the problems before Monday.

well think there needs to be a show of hands in here as to who would or wouldnt take part?as would at least show royal mail if there was numbers behind it?i have been quite fortunate to be paid but have had other issues with angard but do feel for others an makes it hard to work with them as they are not happy in there work cos of this!

I for one won't be returning on monday, or ever unless the Anguard project is cancelled. As to offcial, no strike is official. But given enough people it is still a valid way to get your point across. I for one hope that there will be enough walking out to make at least an impact but don't expect there to be that many.

This is a major sea change in RM operations and Anguard will play a larger role in RM operations as time goes on, as they get more praticed during the much quieter spring and summer they will begin to take over PT RM contract staff.
I will be interested as to what happens to Anguard as a RM asset once privatisation kicks in. Will it become a cash cow for ex-RM directors or will it become a part of the sale.

Either-way this is an end of an era for RM, and the end of the traditional RM xmas casual season. I worked 3 of them now and have met some fine people and some pretty terrible ones too.

Good luck to everybody that sticks with it, but I shall go back to repairing computers and Iphones, given the economic climate not such a bad idea I think.

I think you'll find some strikes are official. We voted for/against strike action in 2007/2010, because we have a union. Angard staff, unless you have all joined the CWU, been balloted for strike action by the CWU and all decided in favour of going on strike, will not have official strike action and it will therefore NOT be an official strike. There is a difference.

I was referring purely to Anguard, but if you want'ed to arugue semantics, there are guidelines for a "lawful strike" which protects the Trade Unions from secondary action. But for a strike to be truly "official" then I would argue that it had to be sanctioned by the employer as well.

From what I have read there is an acceptance in law and government of Trade Unions, but no laws that profer the given right to strike just guidlines in the event.

I am going to not go in on Monday, and phone at 9am, but I dont consider it a strike.

That said if I was to hear their was a picket line, I would consider joining it.

As it's unlikely many of us casuals will be signed up with the CWU - many of my casual mates where I am in the West Midlands are young lads and lasses in their first jobs after leaving school and not attuned to the nuances of walking out, especially as most of them need the money - it's important anyone who has previous trade union membership advises their younger colleagues about their rights, and the pros and cons of walking out.

Our younger colleagues are desperate for their Xmas cash, so encourage them to think in the future about the benefits of union membership... if not this time, then the next time they are likely to get screwed by this unholy combination of Royal Mail and Reed plc.

PS: There's no mood for a strike where I am working, but the long-term disillusionment and anger I am hearing about employment prospects for 17-20 year olds means

"I Predict a Riot".

We have already withdrawn labour, are in contact with local press and intend to follow suit if we do not receive our cheques as promised on Monday. The protest however will have to affect the night shift as this is where they really require the casual staff.

I would be up for not going in tomorrow aswell although I dont think there would be that many people in the outhouse I'm in willing to do the same which is motherwell scotland I've been pissed about something awful with this lot and have emailed my local mp aswell as local newspapers

People are getting hung up on the definition of the word "strike". Union or no union, if I'm not payed, I'm walking and I don't need an organisation behind me to give me permission.

I will go in on Monday purely because the manager said "if you're not payed by Monday, come and see me". I will see him before I commence work and if he can sort this out there and then, then I'll stay. If however I go in on Monday and find I'm fobbed off with more excuses, I'm out the door - whether anyone follows me is up to them and their desperation.
