Apologies if this has been asked / answered already.

If during a mail centre closure you were offered a like for like job in a remaining mail center eg. night shift to night shift but you considered the distance to that location too far to travel and opted for a vacancy in a delivery unit, would you forfit any right to pay protection to your night shift allowance?

It will depend on what the agreement on the closure is and what is deemed as reasonable in terms of travelling. under the London Joint Statement it said a reasonable for a full timer would be a 60 minute journey from home address using public transport. Eqaully it will depend on whether there is enough jobs in the new mail centre for everyone.

In London every move is deemed compulsory and that includes to transfers to delivery units or outside London and therefore full pay protection applies. I suggest you contact your rep and get advice.

Yes, you lose all alowances that you are recieving at the moment as the firm has offered you a position at the new place(like for like). as if you decline it and get a transfer to a delivery site then you wont be entitled to anything as it is your choice

I understand that to be the case if the vacancy is in your own office but what happens if you couldn't travel to the destination where the job is offered?
Are you not loseing your night allowence through no fault of your own (because the location is moving)?

Dingo answered your question ... It is all down to what is deemed as a reasonable request,google mtsf agreement... I believe off the top of my head everybody's situations are different and yours will be either reasonable or not ... You get 3 appeals if RM deem it as reasonable and you don't ( google mtsf the rest is there) If it is unreasonable then any business driven change you get pay protection ... Am guessing but surely London set the president on 60 minutes ??? Dingo ???

In London the 60 minute journey is for full time staff who have not got their first , second or third preference and is from home address by public transport and not by car .

The transport system in London is in many ways better than in other parts of the UK and therefore other measures of reasonableness may need to be applied. Royal Mail do track from home address to protential new work place how long it takes by independent measures for example the Transport for London website allows you to input someone's postcode address and a new work address and it gives you the time it takes to the new workplace by public transport.

The other reason why the London reasonable travelling time may not be suited to other regions is that the vast majority of people do not live in the postcode they work in and 40 per cent of mail centre staff live outside of the London postcode area so already travell a fair time to get to work .
