It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Don't bother they will not answer. I think they have pulled the phone out of the socket on the 01202 688502 number. All it does is continually ring or "engaged". It might seem to be engaged but that will be someone else trying to call them just before you.
