for me the thread in question highlighted something that is relevant and needs addressing if we are to have any future as royal mail ,t b t said that the thread had gone off its orignal intended course which for me it didnt its clear that a pet hate of some part timers are some full timers and vice versa, some people are eloquent when they speak or write about a subject some passionate ,there is a mix of education standards so, so what if your grammar is poor or your english , so what if some people generalise in what they say ,they are just giving an opinion or telling you how they feel or what they think ,i want to understand the other side of an argument as i want them to understand my point of view , we are a divided workforce that is why the cwu seem or infact are inafective and why royal mail continues to be the gravy train for management and senior management and why the bullying and intimidation continuesPOSTMAN wrote:Swearing hasn't been mentioned by teebs or me for that matter. Others are talking about it.
Hardly anyone has ever been pulled up for swearing unless it's seriously ott.
I don't get it though,a thread is locked once in a blue moon and all hell breaks loose.

The problem is we've addressed it again and again and it always ends up descending into the same name calling and generalisations.twobags wrote: for me the thread in question highlighted something that is relevant and needs addressing
To be quite honest it's a debate without end because neither side is ever willing to accept the that the other's perspective should even exist. That isn't really a debate it's more of an argument.
If you're putting forward a case to defend your position or you are picking holes in their position then it could be said that it's relevant but i didn't see anyone put forward a case for anything.
If you are making comments like 90% of full-timers don't give a toss about part-timers or all part-timers are lazy it isn't relevant because you only work in a tiny fraction of Royal Mail and your experiences only relate to that tiny fraction.so what if some people generalise in what they say ,they are just giving an opinion or telling you how they feel or what they think
What you are doing by generalising like this is feeding stereotypical prejudice which is something i personally find unacceptable in real life as well as on this forum.
The danger with continuing a thread like that is because of it's nature it will only attract extreme views...those with an axe to grind on either side and anyone reading it will only see a skewed extreme parody of what is an important issue.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

what you are saying just confirms the problem exists and needs addressing this is something the cwu should take the initiative with instead of reinforcing the divide, as for the generalisation part , if you in a debate or argument generalise then you weaken the importance of what you feel and say as it gives the other side the upper hand therefore making what you say easily dismissed as conjecture.which then inflames the debate/argument because you the generaliser feels no one is listening to you or ignored as unimpotant or worse a joke when what you had to say was important to youfishtank wrote:The problem is we've addressed it again and again and it always ends up descending into the same name calling and generalisations.twobags wrote: for me the thread in question highlighted something that is relevant and needs addressing
