Royal Mail denies reports of walkouts by Christmas temps

The Royal Mail has denied that there have been any walkouts by Christmas temporary staff affected by issues including lack of pay, telling Recruiter that such outstanding issues will be resolved as soon as possible.

A story yesterday on recruiter.co.uk listed alleged walkouts that had been staged at a number of offices. A Royal Mail spokesperson responded, saying: “Any suggestion of organised or collective ‘walkouts’ at any operational centre is completely untrue.

Temporary Christmas staff taken on by Angard Staffing, the Royal Mail’s staffing arm outsourced to Reed Specialist Recruitment, yesterday complained of not receiving their pay.

On Tuesday, John Fawcett, a Royal Mail worker quoted in yesterday’s story, told Recruiter today that while he has received a partial payment, he said he believed other workers had not received their full pay and some not at all.

On the question of workers not receiving pay, the spokesman said: “The vast majority of temporary staff have been paid. We are aware of some seasonal workers who have unfortunately not been paid when they should have been.

“We are working with our external supplier to urgently resolve this issue and almost everyone affected is today receiving the pay due to them. We will resolve any remaining outstanding issues on pay as soon as possible.”

Outsourced recruitment firm Reed Specialist Recruitment referred enquiries to the Royal Mail.
