I have been watching the post on here called 'people not getting paid' and was extremely amused at a comment on there last week saying it would get busy next week and guess what??????? it has had 5000 views alone in the last hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the guardian think its only a minority where the problem lay................ hmmmmm...............

The talk on the shop floor this evening- where it came from I do not know - is that 15,000 of the 18,000 casual staff have been affected in some way or other in the 'angard pay fiasco'. If this is correct, then the comment from the RM that 'only a small fraction of Angard staff have been affected' is somewhat disingenuous!

The math is nobody got paid, and we were told midnight (someone phoned my house and relayed this information while i was working backshift), i imagine a lot of folk are looking, i;d urge them all to look for the contact numbers for journalists and drop them a line, only a 100 odd did it last time, which doesn't seem proportional to the amount of views and registrations reported.

There's always a huge discrepancy between the number of people who look and the number of people who act. Short of standing outside your mail centre and asking every casual as they go in on each shift whether they are prepared to strike I'd say that it is impossible to gauge the support that such a strike would have and then you'd have to do it in at least one mail centre in each region as I bet the responses would vary widely depending on how desperate people were for immediate work/payment and how they perceive local management's behaviour. I also question how long RM would tolerate your doing so even if you were on the pavement and not on their premises. There is mention of security goons in the angard contract who would probably "remove" anyone doing this and it would be your word against 3 or 4 of them if you tried to bring assault charges. But hey the CWU should be doing this as, in the long run, it's their members who are going to get royally shafted by Angard if they get away with the way they are treating the casuals. And if you are going to strike how about the issues of equal pay for equal work, observation of the Health and Safety Regulations -especially PPE, overtime after 37.5 hours not after 48, holiday pay at the rate appropriate to the shift that you're contracted to work not just getting paid on time. It's like waking up in the 1970's again. I really thought we'd fought and won most of those battles; it's all very depressing for an old socialist.
