Name calling, very mature! :no no However Which powers do you think are going to be repatriated from the EU?
Employment laws which look after the workers interest or what? Powers repatriated means the right to hire and fire with minimum notice, reduction in sick pay, reduction in holiday entitlement, rescinding ability to go to an ET, removal of the working time directive. The WTD stops unscrupulous employers from forcing workers to work long hours!
Fat cats don't just reside in Europe :d'oh!

You utter some bovine scat!
A whole lot of agencies are firing workers well before they complete twelve weeks' service so that they DO NOT BENEFIT OR HAVE ANY PAY PARITY, TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE LIKE THEIR F/T PERMANENT WORK COLLEAGUES. Are you that obtuse? Or in denial and biased?

Your use of the word "repatriation" is simply obfuscation as it normally applies to animate beings as in persons, humans etc...
We are not talking about WTD but the EU Agency workers' directive [2010], perversely interpreted by employers to benefit themselves... :Sick :Sick :Sick  :no no :d'oh!

Reason I ask is because Friday all us casuals got taken in a room for like a meeting and the manager said if we are off for say one day and then dont turn in the next day that is it we are no longer in a job, now I know we dont get a union like the permi workers do but we must have some rights I mean surely you cant just loose your job for being of ill can you?
Very few, you are simply a human RESOURCE . Welcome to UK PLC , short of putting a bullet in your temple ,employers have a fairly free hand ,cheers Clegg :left:

This is an important thread. So will everyone please stick to reasoned debate.

Personally, I don't know which is worse. Potentially leaving the EU (subject to any referendum), or sticking with them. True, the EU has brought in important legislation to protect Workers, but on the other hand, they're a major drain on Britain's finances, particularly due to the Euro farce. Only time will tell, what will happen, and whether it will make things better or worse. Although intelligentsia is right, that the legislation which supposedly protects Agency and Casual Workers, is too easy to bypass. Which is exactly what's happening. That's the main reason for setting up Angard. :hmmmm

Sometime in September 2012, Angard casuals received a letter from Sam Slater so called "account manager" for Angard Staffing solutions persuading us to "refrain from applying to Royal Mail for Christmas Casual jobs" because Angard would be giving us more work!?

I for one heeded the advice like many others!

WE WHO are EMPLOYED BY ANGARD HAVE BEEN LIED TO and utterly deceived!

In actuality one could not apply because if you were an existing employee of Angard you were barred from applying by the website!!!!!

Not only have we received a drop in shifts offered but most have only been offered 4 hour shifts. What an utter con and deception by this dreadful company!

Unless we receive more shifts at this supposed "busy time", I shall be writing a letter of complaint and copying it to Moya Greene, CEO of Royal Mail Group.
This is totally unfair and unacceptable practice at the Exeter Mail Centre and seems to be happening all over.

This discriminatory employment practice must stop or Angard casuals will have no option but to take out tribunal procedures against angard.
Last year 2011 we all suffered the Angard payroll complete FIASCO now Xmas 2012 is giving us the "Shift" angst!! :coolr

4 hour shifts? Oh wow, feel my pain. Many staff are employed on 4 hours a day.

Think of it as better than nothing - if you don't want the money don't go in. Simple as.

2012 Christmas casuals employed by RM are getting 3-4 week contracts, 8-hour shifts/week and the regulars/permanent staff are getting all the overtime hours @ £11.50/hour (at least!)
We, casuals employed by Angard after showing dedication, commitment with tried and tested expertise over many months have had a drop in hours!
Totally unfair and unacceptable! In fact this is a perfetc example of discriminatory employment practice.

Please argue and debate more intelligently AND COMPARE terms and conditions of service within the SAME company!

Yes, we all know about workers in the UK and abroad in OTHER COMPANIES that are working less than 4 h/day....
We as Angard casuals want more hours not less. Please stop being OBTUSE! adb2aber

So the Royal mail staff shouldnt have a chance to earn extra money through overtime then? Im sorry but you have just lost any respect you may have had before. Overtime is a dwindling benefit we have in royal mail and any CWU rep worth their salt will always try and get more hours for its members before letting casuals into its unit.

He is right I think some on here being obtuse.

To help I'll do this with bullet points.

► He made no mention of not allowing Royal Mail permanent staff to do the overtime.
► He pointed out that those who have been doing casual work all year are now not getting as much during this busy time.
► He pointed out that Xmas Casuals who are cheaper to employ are getting the work.

► If you really believe there should be a pecking order than surely regular casuals should have the opportunity to work if before the Xmas ones.

►Did you know Angard Casuals can join the CWU so may be denying your own members the chance to earn extra cash over the holiday period.

We shouldn't be shooting the messenger they are victims in this case, what we should be doing is attacking the system that allows this and all the other unfair and unjust actions that seem prevalent in Royal Mail. Really some do the dividing and conquering of staff for Royal Mail all by yourself.

THANK YOU TBT. At least someone on these forums can see whats going on here.

I have worked steadily for Royal Mail since Christmas 2010. Kept on after and worked regularly all through 2011. When RM farmed us out to Angard in Sept 2011 we still continued to work even despite the drop in shift allowance etc. Lucky enough I did not suffer with the pay debacle that befell many last year. We still turned up, did the hours.

Working relationships with the regulars? SOUND. Listen if you work anywhere you always going to be the new kid on the block.

Work was patchy during most of 2012 but a few hours here and there make the difference when you struggling to pay bills. There was a feeling of loyalty with the Managers on the floor and often I was covering shifts (especially Bank Holiday weekends and Fridays) at the drop of a hat (last minute phone call).

The letter from Angard asking us not to apply for work at Christmas, at the time, seemed a sensible idea. How wrong we were!

It just seems wrong that those employed by Angard should now read about about the struggles of "RM Casuals" to be vetted security checked, ID Cards got etc etc. Whilst we as experienced workers (vetted....oh maybe not) are ignored not only by Angard BUT RM also (no reply yet from "Just Say It").

Bottom line is there are many of us who were relying on the extra work this Christmas and have held off applying for anything else (even RM jobs!!).

There must be an answer and a reason for all this? I guess the answer is obvious BUT. How greedy, underhand and against all principles of fairness does this make RM look?

An absolutely correct analysis of a most unfair and discriminatory situation against Angard employees. The undated letter from a certain Sam Slater, "account manager" at Angard which I received on the 10/8/2012 must be challenged i.e urging us not to apply to RM BECAUSE ANGARD WOULD BE GIVING US MORE THAN A FEW WEEKS!???? :no no

Hence an email should be sent challenging his/her empty promise [illegal?] plus a copy to Moya Greene, CEO at RMG. He/she must be brought to account. Best wishes TBT and fellow Angardees :Applause

I work for Angard as a casual and have lost shifts due to the influx of RM Xmas Casuals. In my opinion the 'RM casuals' should consider themselves lucky to have a job at all, when most of them (from what I can see), don't have a flippin' clue, can't read and can't load a flippin' york either, one of the fundamentals! AND from what I have seen they are generally very lazy and not at all concerned about errors in mail sorting, talk about paying peanuts and getting m....ys! They have an 'attitude' about being 'Royal Mail' and have the cheek to look down on us as only Angard casuals. Why on earth RM did not look at the bigger picture and make better use of it's own 'in-house' casual staffing solutions pool via Angard goodness only knows. Many of us have been there a long time and in some cases many years. We would have been the logical solution in being able to 'hit the ground running' rather than having to spend time on training etc. I guess this is just another example of the RM dinosaur (not) getting ready for privatisation! OMG are they in for a shock when that happens. Good luck Charlie!!
