HSE-regulations regarding safety boots etc

See Below...................so why do we have to provide our own safety boots? had to buy my own, borrowed money from my parents as out of work, asked angard they said is up to Royal Mail to supply,, will check with my manager tonight?????????????????

All workers are entitled to work in an environment where the risks to their health and safety are properly controlled.If you are an agency or temporary worker then your health and safety is protected by law and employment businesses (agencies) have a duty to make sure that they follow it.

HSE has published guidance, aimed at employment businesses and businesses that use agency workers. Find out how they should be managing your health and safety . There are particular issues the guidance highlights. Careful attention to them is a key to successful management of health and safety:

You have a duty to take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of other people who may be affected by your actions at work.
You must co-operate with your employment agency, the business where you are working, and your co-workers to help everyone meet their legal requirements.

If it is necessary for protecting your health, you must be given personal protective equipment, such as gloves, face masks, hard hats or safety shoes. This should be made available to you free of charge.

You must be trained to use it and the equipment must fit you properly. It is your responsibility to use it in line with the training you receive, and to inform the person that provided the equipment if it is lost or damaged.
If using a computer screen is a significant part of your job then you are entitled to a DSE (Display Screen Equipment) assessment to make sure you are using it correctly.
You are entitled to a rest break of at least 20 minutes if you work more than six hours at a stretch. You are also entitled to an annual period of paid holiday. Find out more about Working Time .

PPE should be provided by the employer. But, I guess because you're "only" agency staff and only working for the christmas period, they're not going to fork out for shoes for you all if you're going to not be with the business for more than a few weeks.

I can see it from both sides. When I started with RM, I didn't get my shoes for 12 weeks. I only got a coat and hi viz vest. That was because they knew that most new starters, if they were going to leave, did so within that time.

Also, the shoes RM staff get given are s**t anyway so you might as well get your own

You may be required to wear protective clothing or equipment during your secondment e.g. high visibility jackets or safety boots. You will be advised before commencing your secondment if these are necessary. If protective clothing or equipment is required for your secondment and you do not own the necessary clothing/equipment it will be provided to you, either by Angard or Royal Mail.

eveybody wore trainers try walking for 7 hours wearing safety boots your feet would be red raw

Safety shoes (with regards PPE) to me implies toe tecs, not just ones with proper non slip soles. So, are RM required to provide non slip shoes for agency staff, or are we talking toe tecs for certain parts of the business i.e. certain indoor work when dealing with machinery?

Like I said, I didn't get shoes for 12 weeks when I started with RM on delivery Then again, my trainers had better grip and didn't take all the skin off my feet either...
