You can. A strike in its most basic form is individuals withdrawing Labour to highlight a dispute with their employer. But I would say that anyone thinking of taking part in any such action do some research into the possible consequences of unofficial or unprotected industrial action. Including RM employees.
wamdue wrote:That said if the Royal Mail employees who are part of a union, strike in sympathy, obviously I would stand with them
Sympathetic strikes were made illegal (and therefore unprotected) by Mad Maggie, but a lot of CWU members would refuse to cross a picket line, official or unofficial. Just check out the questions and queries on the main forums about doing so before the recent public sector strikes.

At the end of the day, what have you got to lose?

Most of us haven't been paid correctly, if at all, so you won't lose any money.

Second,as far as I am aware, we are all due to finish at the end of that week anyway.

Thirdly, don't worry about your future chance of employment with Angard-would you really want to work for them after all you have gone through this time?

Let's face it, the only way we will get Royal Mail to sort anything out is to disrupt their profits and mail delivery targets-it's all they are interested in these days.

So all on for Monday 19th, 12:00 mass walkout then?

ONE OUT-ALL OUT

we have actually considered this, the cs phone lines on a saturday are now only manned by temps...no RMCS staff work saturdays thanks to their last pay agreement, if we can find a way of contacting all the temps in plymouth, stoke and doxford (which i think are the only 3 centres now open on a sat) and we all dont go in on the same sat, ( christmas eve would be ideal), then they might actually pay attention to us :left:

OK So the 19th then, yes count me in! The Sunday is not a good idea, because not many people will work that day (as has already been stated). Christmas Eve, I don't think so! All the casuals will have finished by then & the last delivery before Christmas will have already happened. Last day for 2nd class posting is 17th (I think) I reckon alot of people will get laid off Wednesday/Thursday.

If people are going to strike then it should be on the same day at every Royal Mail centre and do it a day will hurt them the most. Its time we all stand together as people not getting paid, being turned away from jobs, and in general having their christmas ruined by Angard is unacceptable.
I myself have not been paid properly for 2 weeks now, but reading posts in here I should be grateful I have gotten anything at all.

If you go in and say you on strike/not working without everyone else planned on doing so they will just sack you and fill you position 2 days later, you need a mass agreed action

guys there is no way in hell to co ordinate a walk out by temp staff; these poor individuals are there for the money.. not one of us in exeter has been paid correctly,IF AT ALL. yet we are still willing to try and earn a few bob before the holidays. its tragic to hear some of the stories and how far the people are travelling to get to work, only to be ripped of by this money grubbing outfit created by royalmail. this scandalous behaviour is nothing short of organised slavery and could only happen in the uk. these gang masters ANGARD are laughing all the way to the bank AT OUR EXPENSE. mark my words this will continue well into the new year ,with most of us never getting our fair pay. to top it all some bugger stole me sandwiches the other night. shows you how desperate some people are!!! anyway hope they enjoyed them. cheers!!

I quit after the first day, hours were changed, promises broken. I figured the employment was of such a precarious and disorganized nature that it wasn't worth my while, working for peanuts and not being sure if I would get paid.

However I would be prepared to go down and picket. Royal Mail have behaved atrociously.

Some action needs to be taken against RM. Perhaps we should picket post offices too?
