Been in the job for 10 years now and its always been the case that the firms/driving duties have always been a complete p**s take, they do half the work of regular duties.
As a leave reserve I actually dont enjoy having to cover any of the driving duties as it always costs me a small fortune in newspapers and snacks as I usually have at least 2 hours to fill before I can go back to the office on my finish time.

I have covered firms in the past and did enjoy the early sats as half the delivery was retained
Funny though on re-picks ive just not fancied them as duties, dunno why really
I think its because they always seem to be arguing about the size of packets the walkers throw out, just seems like hassle to me.

over x mas we have packet only duties, one tuesday there were 10 large packets only, the guy on it was done in an hour and home.. paid 8 hours whilst others are out delivering until 4.celerycelery wrote:From reading stuff on here there must be plenty of offices who still have job and finish. Are there plans to introduce it to all delivery offices or has that been stopped now?
In small offices job and knock exists because there's nothing else to do apart from maybe empty post boxes

I think everybody should be allowed home hours early at xmas.
It is how the business used to run. Once over the ground anyone.......?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Should Firms deliveries be allowed home hours early at x
you would at most offices on delivery that drivers tend to average the work out between
the areas they do,every area is different due to heavy traffic, our drivers still do there firms parcels
and packets and reg/recordeds and parcels and packets for houses in that area.
the extra vans do bag-drops, registered, firms splits, then what areas are worst hit take the parcels and packets.
most drivers come back on time or just over other drives claim extended.
if drivers come back early the guvnor would send them back out to clear any work left. in the past also
doing walk delivieries.
today drivers are in to re-deliver 739 parcels and packets which are still unclaimed.which is our biggest problem
where to put the items the 739,s at the moment enquirey office is full and 739 packets and parcels are lined in
order under our bays.
cannot wait till next week.

I am only really moaning because of the bad feelings which happen every xmas pressure in MY office. It produces bad feelings which make the whole thing worse.
I am just interested what happens in other offices. I think my dom is too weak.

That was ended in our office years agofishtank wrote:Scheduled Attendance Christmas Agreement.
22hrs flat payment over the pressure period in return for not booking extended delivery overtime.
It's a local thing......![]()
Have you guys got a rep in your office?
As for the usual firms vs residentials arguments - thats kinda changed in our office cos now the firms are on flat 5 day week with Saturday being an *optional* 5 hour SA. The 5 hours covers the time to come in, prep and deliver the firms. To make it up to the old rate of 7.22 hours the blokes are now required to deliver an additional 35 residential oversized in order to get paid the outstanding 2.22 hours.
Some of our firms guys do the packets and some dont, some dont even work the Saturday anymore and are happy with the straight Monday-Friday - their choice but at least it stops those who were critical of them getting paid the full daily pay for apparently doing "f*ck all"
I do both firms and walks so I can see both sides of the arguement but I'd say in my office that its the conveyance drivers who have the sh*t end of the deal this time of year - unmanageable workload with tracked/specials/oversized and bags for 6 blokes is a joke!
