From CWU this morning/FULL UPDATE FROM CWU HQ
Negotiations have taken place between CWU and Royal Mail over the last five weeks, but ended on Sunday without agreement.
However, there has been progress in a number of areas, including pay. Although talks are set to continue the union is disappointed that Royal Mail has ended the agreed 'period of calm'.
The union therefore can only presume that Royal Mail are set to implement unagreed operational changes.
As a result, despite being committed to further talks and being determined to reach an agreement, CWU will announce further strikes to be held prior to the end of September
A summary of the rejected proposal is attached.
For more information please contact:
Sian Jones: 07793314249

SUMMARY OF REJECTED PROPOSAL
Pay
A number of options that amount to 6.7% on basic pay over two years with additional lump sums. This includes more money in the first year.
Flexibility
A range of proposals which amount to total flexibility where postal workers will not know what job they are performing from day to day.
Pensions
The company has virtually re-tabled the previous rejected proposal as revealed by the Daily Mirror, including a reduction in benefits, increased employee contributions and later retirement age.
No final agreement on a number of areas including job security, personnel procedures, automation, productivity and network changes.

FULL UPDATE FROM CWU HQ
Letter to Branches
No. 801/07 Ref: 60000 Date: 11th September 2007
TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS
Dear Colleague
ROYAL MAIL DISPUTE
Following a full report from the negotiating team the Postal Executive unanimously rejected Royal Mail’s latest offer.
Whilst some progress has been made on pay there remain significant differences in a number of key areas.
Attached to this LTB is a summary of the main issues.
In light of Royal Mail’s decision to end the period of calm the Postal Executive has made the following decisions.
• A National Briefing of Branches and Field Officials will take place on Thursday 13th September at the South Wimbledon Club, 8 Russell Road, Wimbledon, the Briefing will start at 11am.
• We have agreed to respond positively to Royal Mail’s offer of further negotiations.
• We have agreed in principle to reactivate national strike action in September. This is in response to Royal Mail’s decision to push ahead with imposed change.
Further details covering the aforementioned will be sent out in a letter to members’ home addresses in due course. A comprehensive Reps Brief to be used in face to face meetings with the membership is also being prepared.
In the meantime, please ensure the content of this LTB is circulated to all workplaces.
Yours sincerely

A SUMMARY OF THE KEY ISSUES IN ROYAL MAIL’S PROPOSAL
PAY – Various options that produce 6.7% over 2 years with additional lump sums. This includes new money in the first year (1% is funded through ESOS).
FLEXIBILITY – a range of proposals which amount to total flexibility with postal workers not knowing what job they would be doing from day to day - with different attendances as requested by the local manager.
PENSIONS – Completely unacceptable proposals that virtually mirror the Royal Mail pension document revealed in the national press.
NETWORK 07/LATER STARTS – There has been an exchange of proposals to move these issues forward. The Union are awaiting a response from Royal Mail on whether our counter proposals are acceptable.
OTHER ISSUES – No final agreement on a range of other issues including job security, automation, door to door, MTSF, productivity and pay simplification.

That looks a bit different to what is posted above.
These are the rejected issues?
Well can anyone tell me what the AGREED issues are?
RM have totally bullshitted the CWU - they have kept them dangling whilst they set in motion, behind the scenes, the moves to execute the proposed changes - and still the executive are pussyfooting around.
How come the meeting is only on Thursday @ 11. Presumably the outcome will be reported on Friday and lo and behold HQ shuts down for the weekend and the new starts begin on Monday.
IT IS TIME. We should no longer be prepared to put up with second best - if they don't have the bottle for a fight then lets have em out and recruit from outside - people who are bright enough and intelligent enough to actually see whats coming. For fecks sake most people on this forum could see a shafting on its way - but NOT the 100k officers of this Union.
Hand me the rope and lead me to a tree - oh and stop my union dues.

Ha idiots. Your reps needs to write to manager and ask him to put the later starts by Executive action in writing. If they won't put it in writing then it's not official. They can't changed your terms and condititions by word of mouth. The Inspector wrote:Thanks - Lovejoy! I have an e-mail from CWUorg - but it's not as imformative - as this one. Well done mate. Your info of yesterday appears bang on! My DAM is saying that - he has been told to implement later starts on next Monday - but knows that he can't! He is also informing my members that we are on strike - next Thurs - Fri - & Sat!!!!

We're of a mind! Unfortunately the leadership seem to think they are STILL talking. After 5 weeks of chattering, nothing agreed, everything rejected and the PEC wandering round the TUC on a day when we should have been talking turkey and our pay rise 6 months overdue we are looking to reopen talks............... masterful!disgruntledpostie1 wrote:I say go out tomorrow and then start rolling strikes from Monday 17th

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Saw a management e-mail this morning that states -
In addition, we proposed to the CWU that we use the money accrued over a number of years through the ESOS scheme to top up this years pay by another half a percent, with the possibilityof incorporating this into ongoing pay from April 2008 in return for further change.
Bit different to our Unions version
