With its reputation as the coldest spot in the country, Altnaharra postie Lindsay MacDonald is officially the coldest postie in the UK – a contrast from his other job as a retained firefighter in the area.
Lindsay, who has notched up ten years’ service, also has one of the largest patches – based at the Lairg delivery office, he carries out the round trip of 120 miles to Altnaharra’s 23 or so addresses every working day.
He is one of the “going the extra mile” posties in the service – others in Scotland include Tommy McManmon, the postman in the last wilderness of Knoydart, and Graham Lawrence, the highest postie in the UK, delivering to the Cairngorm Ski Centre at 2083 ft (635m).
This Christmas, Royal Mail expects to handle a total festive mailbag of around two billion items.
On the busiest days it will handle up to 130 million items – around double the normal average daily mailbag of 62 million items

No offence to him...he does his bit but at the end of the day are you telling me that driving around delivering to 23 calls is “going the extra mile”.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: He is one of the “going the extra mile” posties in the service
Maybe we could have a story about the postie who delivers to 1600 calls in scumville with his park&loop buddy “going the extra mile”.

Yeah but that's just not as sexy as a man who drives around and then has a 20 minute chat with each householderfishtank wrote:No offence to him...he does his bit but at the end of the day are you telling me that driving around delivering to 23 calls is “going the extra mile”.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: He is one of the “going the extra mile” posties in the service

I'll say one thing though..the poor bloke will be out of at least one job shortly.
Can you really see a privatised Royal Mail paying someone to drive 120 miles with a couple of the farmers mags and a copy of Reader's Sheep Weekly?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Cor, imagine driving 20 miles to one windswept farm in the middle of a stormy winter with a pizza menu and a virgin media advertisement?

You may mock but he one of the "winners" from the 2010 deal of the century. Back in those unenlightened times when people were paid for D2Ds he was only getting at best a measly quid, or so, a week. Now look at him, rolling in it! (Well, slight exaggeration but you get the drift). Fair play, Lindsay.clashcityrocker wrote:And his D2D.fishtank wrote:I'll say one thing though..the poor bloke will be out of at least one job shortly.

Lairg to Altnaharra is only about 20 miles so if he is doing 120 miles a day he must be doing more than just the 23 drops in Altnaharra
