Solihull - Fears voiced over festive post service

A SOLIHULL postman claims Christmas deliveries are in doubt and that many homes in the borough are only receiving mail every other day.

The Royal Mail worker says there is impending mail chaos over the festive period because of changes to how post is delivered.

The whistleblowing postie, who is based at Solihull Delivery Office, said new working practices using trolleys and two workers in a van is slowing down the service to such an extent that a lot of Solihull residents are only getting mail every other day.

“In the next three weeks this is going to get an awful lot worse,” he said.

“The way things are going there will be thousands of letters, cards and parcels that will not be delivered by Christmas.”

Steve Reid, Birmingham Branch Secretary of the CWU trade union, which represents postal workers, said: “Delivery methods have altered at Solihull.

“This is part of an agreement reached by Royal Mail and the CWU known as Business Transformation 2010 and Beyond.

“As with all new working procedures there will always be teething problems and we are raising these with local management as they arise.

“Our Postmen and Postwomen take great pride in the service they provide and will always endeavour to deliver the post on time.”

Royal Mail spokesperson Val Bodden said: “Mail for delivery is going out for delivery every day in Solihull and we are making every effort to ensure all deliveries are completed that same day.

“Changes to local delivery practices are part of Royal Mail’s investment to modernise the business.

“It is essential that we change in order to secure the future of the business and the highly valued one-price-goes-anywhere service.”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The postmen in Solihull DO are now being performance managed, which is funny, given that the managers who are challenging them cant even complete a the duties themselves. "Teething problems" my arse, it didnt work from day one, when are RM going to learn that using model week and having to flex up most of the year isn't going to work.
