A MAIL sorting office has hosted a visit by a Derbyshire MP to show how it is preparing to cope with any winter bad weather.
The visit of Heather Wheeler, MP for South Derbyshire, to Hatton sorting office was prompted by experiences last year when severe snow hampered deliveries.
Heather Wheeler paid tribute to the staff at Hatton sorting office.
The MP said: "I wanted to see how things are going to be dealt with this year.
"I was very impressed with the team at Hatton. Their delivery office manager, Stephen Martin, showed me the equipment bought for the vans and shoes of the posties to help them get out and about safely if the snow arrives.
"Also, if it does get too bad for the Royal Mail to get out members of the public can, if they want to, make their own way to the sorting office and, on the production of two forms of identification, pick up their own post."
Mr Martin told the MP tips which would help them get the post out.
He said: "With the automatic letter recognition machines, if people put Findern, rather than Derby, on the envelopes it would help letters get there quicker."
He also asked people not to use gold pen on envelopes as the machines cannot see it.

Yeah, that's really going to make a difference when the country's under 3 ft of snow.

What van equipment? I normally keep a few spare sacks in the back just incase i need to put something under the wheels."I was very impressed with the team at Hatton.
