Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris has visited Halesowen’s Royal Mail Delivery Office as postmen and postwomen prepare to deliver Christmas post to 44,000 houses over Christmas.

On a tour of the Coombs Wood centre James met with postmen and women and heard how new working practices are changing the way that they work.

New working practices including different working hours, greater use of modern technology and shared use of post vans have been introduced.

The MP also met with Royal Mail delivery manager Royston Ewins to discuss the challenges facing the company and the steps that they taking to adapt to the impact of email, text messaging and online shopping.

Speaking after the visit Mr Morris said: “It was great to speak to the hard-working postmen and women at the Coombs Wood delivery office, who are particularly busy at this time of year making sure that we get our cards and presents on time.

“I was very interested to hear their views, both positive and negative, about the measures Royal Mail has taken to help them to compete with other mail providers and to offer a better service to customers.”

He added: “I am concerned that the price that Royal Mail is paid to deliver post for other providers means that the company often makes a loss on each letter.

“This does not seem fair and I shall be taking it up with the Minister to press for the Regulator to investigate.”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
