See here for rates...

Half of us signed on after being told we were getting £7.83 an hour. I've even got that written down by the guy that conducted my interview (if you can even call the shower of s**t identity parade we had an interview), on the confirmation letter sitting in front of me... reading that after a night of working my balls off has just made my blood run cold.

The issue of what we're actually getting paid is as much of a problem as getting paid in the first place. I don't know what the Hell I'm getting now after reading this thread. My first instinct is to foxtrot oscar out of there if I'm on the lower rate (working the 10pm to 6am shift), but that said the casuals I'm working with are good people and I'm happy to stick around to help them out. Even the two lines we have in the evening (Steve and King), are a pleasure to work for... which is more than can be said for some of the other wank stains that constitute management we've run into who have the people skills of Jack the Ripper and I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire in the desert.

Angard are arseholes par excellence. You can't even get a straight answer out of them. The only way I'm going to get the truth is if Doris Stokes was still around to read the f***ing tarot; it'd be more reliable than Angards interpretation of it.

£7.83ph for nights would have been the rate if RM hadn't done some crafty accounting and appointed its own agency. That's the rate I was earning pre September with RM as a casual. Like you I was tempted to tell the lot of them to stuff it where the sun don't shine but there are good people working in my place and I like the work and the hours but I won't do anything other than the minimum to earn my dosh.

Google 01903 229191 and it comes up with Reed Employment PLC, 4 Chapel Road, Worthing BN11 1BJ

If Heather and Ashley are Reed employees, then that must mean that Angard (owned by Royal Mail) are outsourcing the actual recruitment and management of Angard workers directly to Reed, presumably paying Reed for the privilege

Is this Angard mob a proper company with it's own offices, or just a 'shell' company that exists in name only (and little else) ?

I hope the article to be published in the Guardian on December 12th digs into this curious set-up ...

Well I started work on the 30th, My contract had no start date written on there.

I got a call on the 29th (at 11.30PM!) to say my enduction was on the 30th at 4PM, and on the day, was told I would start on that very same day at 10PM. It is now the 10th, and i have not yet got paid anything. Two of my colleagues have been working for over 2 weeks and got paid £40!!! for a weeks work. We do twice as much work as regular RM Staff at our centre (Wolverhampton RM) We get paid half their wages, Light shifts get 30-40p more than the day shifts with no night allowance. We have a single half hour break throughout the 8 hours we work. You cant get through to angard staffing at all, the call disconects itself when it does get through, allthough 95% of the time it says we cant take your call right now, straight away. We are being charged around £3.00 for our payslips to be sent to us. We get no pay for the half hour break we do take. if we finish 5/10 mins earlier than we are meant to, our signing off time is quaterised backwards (so a 6.30 finish moved back to 6.15, if we finish at 6.25).

At our centre around 30 people have walked, with around 20 having the same idea after yesterdays shift, and another 10 or so thinking of leaving on monday (And thats only counting the night shift staff). I now work monday - sunday 10pm - 6am, so effectively 56 hours a week, and have recieved no pay as of yet. The word Disspointment and Anger just dont cut it.....

Angard are a subsidiary of Royal Mail. But it seems as though everything has been outsourced to Reed Global.

When you phone Angard and choose option '1' (for Christmas work) you get told that because of the high volume of calls they can't answer and are told to send an email with your query. I sent an email two weeks ago and still haven't got a reply.

The email address is angardxmas.queries@reedglobal.com

reedglobal.com wtf is going here?!

Well I'll post my story that I sent to the guardian, I assumed when I got the email from admin that my case was the common one, but seems they aren't paying people so I guess I got lucky! Its a long one, so fair one if you cba to read it, but it just shows what a load of bollocks angard are. I've had to ****** a few bits of info for 'security' reasons (basically I cba to deal with any comebacks from angard if they found out who I am).

I am writing having received an email from royalmail.co.uk requesting more Angard stories: My story is as follows.

Having completed the standard application process on the Royal Mail website after being advised by my father (who is a employed directly by RM) and passing the 'selection process' (Whatever that is, at the 'interview' it looked like anyone got through, there was people there who spoke very little English, people turning up in tracksuits etc), I was invited to attend an interview at *********. This is where the problems first started.

I received an email a few days after applying telling me to follow a link onto the RM website and choose a date in which I would like to attend an interview. The link did not work, so I signed in to my account using the main link from the RM website instead of the dead one that was supplied. When I logged on there were no interview dates. I decided to keep checking back daily and a few days later I managed to book a date roughly two weeks ahead of the current date. Two days later I received an email telling me to log on as more dates had just been added, although I checked and was already booked in. I filled out all of the forms which were required (in Angard's defense I had to fill out pretty much the same forms the last time I did Xmas temping at RM), but did not bother getting a passport sized photo as previously they took a photo at the interview for your staff card.

Upon arriving at the interview it was clear that the times 'booked' meant nothing, it was first in the queue got the number 1, 2nd number 2 and so on. Anyone who had not got all of their documents were sent home and anyone without a passport size photo (about 20 of us) were sent away to get one. Fortunately I drove, since the nearest photo booth was at least a 15 minute walk into town (and 15 minutes back!). Returning with the passport photo and all of my documents (£5 down for the photo) I was assigned my 'number'. After a 5-10 minute wait, where we were told to read/sign some sort of disclaimer (I'll be honest, after reading the first 2 lines I couldn't be bothered to read 15 pages of their rubbish, I just signed it! Bearing in mind there was people there who could not speak english, it would be safe to assume many people who have signed this document did not understand it.), I was called through into a room with about 20 'checkers' to have my documents checked. Between filling out my application form and my interview I had received a caution from the police for assault (I previously had nothing on my record, convictions or cautions) so I told them this, as I was worried it may look like I had lied on my application. They did not seem to understand that a simple police caution is not a criminal conviction, in fact it was difficult enough to explain to them that I had not lied on my application and that I had received a caution in the interim period. After we managed to sort all that out and my documents had been checked I was taken into another room where I was told to wait for one of the 'interviewers' to become avaliable. There was no format to how this was done, first one up got interviewed... Obviously the English people there waited their turn, the foreign interviewees just got up and the interviewers did not seem to care they were pushing in.

I was finally at the 'interview' where I was told by a lady what jobs were avaliable. I really wanted a driving job because I 'sorted' in my previous role at RM and didn't enjoy it and fortunately there were spaces avaliable, so I asked to be put forward for that. I did not have my counterpart DL, but I did have my card on me and photocopies of both... I was told to go home and get the counterpart of my DL, which I did. When I returned again I had to wait to see the 'interviewer' and I finally got to speak to her again. Whilst I was at home my Mother mentioned that I should enquire as to whether or not they had age restrictions on the drivers, so I asked and was told that it was 25 (bearing in mind I'm 2**, look about 18 and had been sent home to get my counterpart... I've been I.D'd before to buy a scratchcard because the till operative doubted I was even 16). She did seem slightly unsure, so I asked to be put forward anyway in case she was wrong and to be put forward as a sorter as a second choice in case she was right (when I got home I asked my Dad... the Royal Mail policy is any age provided you have a full UK manual licence). I was pleased as it was a job I thought I would enjoy. I was told the start date (**th November) and informed that all I had to do was check online and as soon as I got a 'passed/clear/accepted' next to my name on the online application all I need do is turn up on the start date.

I waited until 2 weeks before my start date and it still said that they were awaiting my CRB check. I decided to try and get in contact to find out what was going on and that is where my search for an Angard Staffing phone number began. After Googling Angard Staffing I was referred to the agency website Reed, the agency website Adecco and a Wikipedia page that informed me Anagard Staffing was a wholly owned subsidiary of royal mail. I still to this day do not know who Angard Staffing are. I finally managed to get the phone number after signing up to Royalmailchat.co.uk and gave them a call. I was then given another phone number which I was told was the 'Christmas department'. I called them and explained the situation, the lady on the other end told me that they were indeed still awaiting my CRB check but she would pass my query higher up and they would get back to me by email. About a week later I received an email stating that the 'contracts' offered were for 0 hours - Basically, if they need me, they will call me and advised me not to turn up on the start date as previously indicated as there would not be a job for me. I was confused, since most of the news about RM at the time was that they needed more applicants, however I did see another article close to my start date suggesting that as many as 10 people applied for every one Christmas job at RM, although again, I do not fully know which one is true. My father told me that the head of the ********* Mail Centre [basically the one I applied to] was urging employees to get family/friends to sign up as they were desperate for people, but I guess other areas could have had more applicants.

Fortunately for myself, I managed to get a job working for *******************. This was arranged through the agency 'Brook Street' whom I was not previously signed up to (basically I was tipped off by ************* a job would be available through Brook Street and she wanted me, as I had previously worked there). I went into the agency on the Wednesday and was signed up, started the following Monday and paid a week on the Friday. The whole process was simple.

It seems to me, Angard Staffing did not care at all about who they interviewed or employed, with the high quality of many unemployed they could afford to be picky, but they weren't. I myself have ** GCES A-C, ** A-levels, 8 months experience as **********, 6 months experience in administration within ********, previous experience working as a temp for Royal Mail and much more. I don't know who they actually employed but the last 3 packages delivered to me have been left 'in the green bin'. Fortunately none have not been stolen or thrown away... yet. My father informs me that RM will not be using Angard staffing again, but I feel for the people who are suffering a Christmas of unemployment due to the mess this agency has caused.
