Early starts - whats the problem?
My office in London has started at 6.30am for a good few months now. Why are people so bothered about starting later? Its an extra half hour in bed for me, which i dont mind. As far as i understand it RM has had this forced on them by european regulations, and now have kept the early allowance for you lot out of london. Am i missing something or do you lot like getting up in the middle of the night!

Re: Early starts - whats the problem?
for a start we start at 4.30 am and as for the eu regulations we are only talking about 4mph difference.Edward Hunter wrote:My office in London has started at 6.30am for a good few months now. the allowances are only guaranteed for 3 years and despite their promises we all know what rm are capable of.
a lot of us wouldnt have joined rm if it wasnt for the hours, we need or want to finish early.

I think by "EA", stubaby is referring to Executive Action, not early allowance.Edward Hunter wrote:Not quite up to speed with the EA situation seeing as i have never recieved it during my 20 years service. My understanding of the situation (or maybe not) was that it was going to be kept with the duty. If i am wrong, fair enough, put me straight.
If we roll over and accept any change to our jobs and conditions that are brought in by Executive Action (i.e. with no negotiation with the union), then this job and the union are both finished. Fighting EA is of huge importance to the future shape of our jobs. If we accept later starts being brought in by Executive Action, what else will RM bring in whilst waving two fingers at the union, i.e. US ? Monthly pay ? Summer lapsing ? YEP, THAT'S RIGHT. ALL OF THOSE FECKIN STRINGS WE'VE ALREADY LOST 4 DAYS PAY OVER !!!! Even if my own personal circumstances meant that I didn't object to later starts, if everybody else in my office was against them, I'd throw my weight behind the majority opinion, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them. That's what being a union member is all about !

2 things.
Ed most of the guys on here are early starts, summin i did not know till this site,so they're pissed at starting later for obvious reasons AND they will be losing money as well.
From what i've read most of them start at 5.
Down in the smoke we've i think have always started later,my 2 DO's in 10 years have all been 5-45 starts and we are now going to start at 6 which aint a big problem.
If i had to start at 7 then because of picking the kids up from school ect,as much as i'm a lazy bastard,i'd have the raving hump about it.
Both sides North/south like when they start,so a dramatic change for either is a mass pisser.
We've all geared our lives with our job so to change stuff after soooo many years aint on!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

My manager asking me to start later next week is a bit like McDonalds asking their suppliers 'where's our zinger burgers and hot wings, then?'
To which they - and you - should reply:
UNTIL YOU CHANGE THE CONTRACT MATE, YOU'RE ONLY GETTING THE SAME SH!T FROM ME AS YOU'VE ALWAYS HAD
So :lfo :cfo

Is it true that the early shift allowance is only eligible to post-persons who stay in the same "job role"???
The early shift allowance means we dont face a reduction in our wage untill we change our "job role".
Sounds fine untill you define "job role"
Is it true that "job role" is another word for duty and not your job tiitle???
So, if one was to change duties then one would lose his early shift allowance???
Sounds great -not!!!
If it gets brought in RM will be enforcing re-picks within a week!!!
Surely im daft and have got the wrong end of the stick here???
Anyone????
