• Derby has been crowned as the UK’s number one online shopping hotspot
• Top ten online shopping hotspots revealed
• Around two billion cards, letters and packets will be delivered by Royal Mail this Christmas
Royal Mail has announced that shoppers in Derby are leading the way in shopping from the sofa in this year’s online festive shopping flurry.
The new data has revealed that during November, postmen and women have delivered the most online orders to people living in this area.
The findings are based on around two and a half million deliveries made through Royal Mail Tracked, a service that tracks the progress of online orders from collection through to the doorstep.
The study comes as research also reveals that 20 million online shoppers are starting their Christmas gift buying earlier this year. More than four in five online shoppers (84 per cent) have already started their Christmas shopping. One in five people have either completed or almost finished their Christmas shopping.
The top ten online shopping hotspots are:
1. Derby
2. Cambridge
3. Lincoln
4. Stockton on Tees
5. Slough
6. Brighton
7. Cheltenham
8. Norwich
9. Coventry South
10. Basingstoke
Nick Landon, Royal Mail’s Managing Director of Fulfilment and Packets, said: “Online shopping is now such a key part of the Christmas shopping experience, helping people take out some of the stress of their present purchases by allowing them to shop from their own home.
“As Royal Mail gears up to deliver this year’s festive postbag of around two billion items I am delighted that people in Derby are helping us spread the load of internet deliveries by placing their orders well in advance.”
On the busiest days this Christmas, Royal Mail will handle around 130 million items – more than double the typical daily average of 59 million cards, letters and packets.
Royal Mail is investing an additional £15 million in this year’s Christmas operation, including opening for the first time a dedicated nationwide packet network of nine packet hubs. Extra planes, trains and trucks are also being laid on by Royal Mail to handle the UK’s festive mailbag of around two billion items.

Royal Mail reveals Derby as online xmas shopping capital

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
