How does this work,having a discussion about leaving packets in DO's here...

There is the clear office policy,and the what comes in from you lot must go out thing,but how does the 3-5 days thing work.
Do you send them to us regardless even before the 5 days are up ( so we could affectively hold on to them)or do you send them to us on the day they have to be delivered?

For example:- A standard parcel comes into the MC on monday,it is sorted and dispatched tuesday,on the early shift.Gets to the Inward MC later that day for dispatch to DO Wednesday morning for delivery AFAIK?
same as it ever was...

Posted Monday, recieved by MC Monday (Unless the DO/Hub retain 2nd class overnight to ease up on Network.) Sorted at the MC on Tuesday morning or should they not have time on Wednesday morning and dispatched Tuesday/Weds lunchtime to the appropriate DC (so NDC, PRDC, SWDC, ELDC) who then dispatch it to the recieveing MC who'll get it amongst their first arrivals on Tues/Weds night unless they don't have transport capacity in which case it'll be delayed again to Weds/Thurs night. So the MC has it, sorts it on the night of arrival and gets it out to the DO for delivery the next day, assuming no receiving MC failures then it is arriving at the DO on Weds/Thurs/Fri. This is between 3 and 5 days. Receiving MC falling over will push it back to 4/5/6 days.
Simple answer is the day it arrives in the DO is the day it must be delivered as the 3-5 days is taken up in MC/Network system. It might be okay to delay it a day but the DOM *doesn't* know what delays that packet has already encountered along the route.
As an aside, tomorrow, check the date on every Horizon and Meter packet/parcel/letter you get for each mail stream and see how many are on last day already.
