It seems to me that the moment may have been lost. Credit due to RMs 'assault' team, they have damaged our position and strengthend their own.
If RM have had time to put plans into place - which they should have - they will cope much better with rolling strikes than they did last time. An all out strike could well be what they want so they can let us all back in on 30hour contracts. They have shown they are willing to talk so the government (possibly our biggest stick) might let them do what they think best and keep us out for a long time.
I've also enquired and a work to rule may well have consequences for individual staff members who have done regular OT for the last 8 weeks. I don't think a local walk out in defence of fellow workers will achieve much.
There are only two options which I can see having any effect but which may not be possible.
1. Do not handle Mailsort. Mailsort is RMs major income. If we can deliver the competitions mail, keep most customers happy and keep ourselves in work then we would hit RM very hard. You may say that it would be stabbing ourselves in the backs but as most of us are just delivery staff it doesn't matter to us where the mail comes from, we still have to deliver it.
2. Agree to all terms if RM get rid of Crosier and Leighton. They may be the big cheeses but there may also be enough power elsewhere in RM to see that its a good option for RM. We loose this battle but open up a fresh battlefield.
What other options do you think there are?

Not sure if I agree with this they may have damaged their position by pulling out of talks just as they were about to get an agreement. It depends how the union handle it.Spedley wrote:It seems to me that the moment may have been lost. Credit due to RMs 'assault' team, they have damaged our position and strengthened their own.

Who did you ask. There is no way they can force you to do overtime if you don't want to do it. They may try all sorts of tricks such as this one to pressure you into it but to work OT is a decision only you can make.I've also enquired and a work to rule may well have consequences for individual staff members who have done regular OT for the last 8 weeks. Illegal cant do that its called delay of mail and is against the law of the land. If it can be done it can only be done at the direction of management. There are only two options which I can see having any effect but which may not be possible.

What - Not a chance if we were near an agreement why should we accept the original deal just to get rid of them. Thats a non starter.Simple accept the deal as it stands. What other options do you think there are?
Carry on the action as before the "period of calm"
All out.
My choice at the moment is carry on the action but try to step it up and keep Royal Mail off balance, whatever we do we should not stop action just so they can talk, it did not work before its not going to work next time.
