Protective footwear

I was rejected from starting today because i didn't have the correct footwear. I need shoes with a protective toe cap. At no point during the recruitment process did angard tell me I'd need these shoes. i was told I must pay for them myself Shouldn't either angard or the place where I'm working supply these shoes? is it really unreasonable to expect them to provide these special shoes?

RM supply us with all our PPE so I would assume that it's their responsibility the supply everyone.

Employers’ duties
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 makes it quite clear that the employer has to
provide a safe working environment. In addition, the Management of Health and Safety
at Work Regulations 1999 also require employers to conduct a suitable and sufficient risk
assessment on the health and safety of their workers. If any risks are found then they must
be removed or reduced.
The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1999 also say that, if a risk has been
identified and cannot be controlled any other way, then protective equipment must be provided.
This includes footwear. If an employer provides protective equipment, such as footwear, then it
must be provided free of charge and there must be instructions on how to use it safely.

what shall I do then. i don't want to pay for these shoes out of my own money. But if I show up tomorrow wearing trainers again they'll turn me away.

i asked them shouldn't angard or RM pay for them and they said get in touch with angard(easier said than done)

so I;m at a loss now

Have another look at your e-mail. The following is a sentence from the one I've just received: " Dress code is casual dress and if you have safety shoes, please bring those with you". If you print the e-mail off and take it with you they will surely be obliged to provide suitable footwear for you.
