I'm all for it, Postie old chap.
For every operator like the one mentioned, there's a hundred who'll put the widget on backwards, or snap the end off, or get bored and wander off, or forget to do it, etc etc which ensures there's always loads of remedial work on. Why do you think TPM never got past the "pretty coloured pictures" stage?
To quote the old saying, you can make things bomb-proof, acid-proof even cockroach proof, but nothing yet has ever defeated Mr Operator when there's nausing-up to be done.
Anyway, if they had that much nous, surely they wouldn't be standing machine-minding for eight hours a day...
